Fix/Replace MBP matte screen polarizer?

I must have closed my screen to my 17" MBP with a piece of sand or dirt on the keyboard because now there's a tiny, tiny hole right in the center of it. It appears to only be a scratch in the polarizing surface. Looking at different angels it appears that the liquid crystals behind it are just fine. Sometimes I can't even see it or it looks like a piece of dust but on dark colors it shows as a tiny, bright white spec right in the center of my display.

I don't want to shell out over $500 for a whole panel for a tiny scratch, and I'm pretty good at DIY repairs. Is it possible to just replace or repair the polarizing surface? Is it attached to the LCD panel itself or can it be separated from it to be replaced? I'm assuming the polarizer is the outer layer, the matte finished surface itself, correct me if I'm wrong.
