My OSx86 Installation's Responsiveness

Hi Everyone,

I have been macKIN' it for the past 4 months or so. I was extremely excited when I first learned that you could put os x on a pc and now I am where I am today.

First off, I am requesting that anyone with any suggestions, advice, opinions, or input please speak up.

My install was from the JaS Intel 10.4.8 [with pff1 and pff2] (or whatever) DVD.

I had to patch my audio with a kext. (not important)

I had to patch my LAN with a kext [viarhine] and had to install a second card just so the one on the mobo would be recognized. (not important)

I had to buy a new video card, but really didn't have the money so I went cheap and basic with an AGP 8X MSI NVIDIA FX 5200. I got CE/QI enabled and working great, but it registers in the system profiler as PCI. (important)

I really want it to register as AGP so I tried using the AGPGart.kext, but it only worked a few times and then after reboot it stopped working. Yes my AGP Aperature is set to 128MB, and I even had 64MB [max on my mobo] RAM shared with networking and it would register and work as AGP. But every 2nd reboot it would stop.

Why this is important is because my system seems sluggish to me. I have used and seen quite a few REAL MACS used. Some seem as if they run the same as mine, and others are blazingly faster than my OSx86.

I think this is the missing link to get my AGPGart.kext to work, but alot of people say it does not work correctly with intel chipsets. So maybe I can't get it to work.

I also think that my hard drive may be effecting the quickness of my system. It is an 8 year old maxtor IDE hard drive. Could the hard drive really effect the responsiveness of OS X that much to where it is noticeable or no?

Well anyways, those are my thoughts about my system. If you have any knowledge of any of my problems, issues, or quandaries. Please comment.

Thank you,

Cody Griffin

Keep on macKIN'
