HP 6570b build

Hi, I have a HP6570b laptop that i wasnt to get OSX into. It has i3 3110m HD4000 (I believe) and 8Gb ram available. I saw that there was a way to get aroubd the SL and Ivy Bridge thing but all I get from that is a panic about "cannot find driver ........" no matter what I try changing in the bios settings. I am an electronics mender who thought he knew a bit about computers but I am getting a bit frustrated with not getting past "stage 1"

 

I have got an old Probook (late 2008) and a proper SL 10.6 (no sub numbers) Retail DVD, the Probook is running Yosemite but is very flaky due to being dropped down a set of stairs (hence given away, I suppose) it has no DVD drive (was a HDD caddy) and now the wifi has stopped...

You'll need a patched kernel, since Ivy Bridge isn't supported within SL.

@ ricoc90   Sorry for the delayed reply - Thanks for the file, I will try it as soon as I get access to the laptop (away from home at present)

 

I went back to the original try, before I left, that was a boot disk (for ivybridge) - from somebody that I gather must not be named here - and I got past the panic, allowing the partitioning of the HDD and stuff. It doesn't boot from that HDD, yet, and came up with 2.4GHz proc (true), 1 core (half truth) and 4GB ram (half truth) - but it was better than I before ... I reckon that the threat of getting "rival" advice bullied the thing into giving back something ;-)

 

I have a couple of other laptops but unfortunately the chuckouts from my work are always going to be HPs

 

Elitebook 8440b 2.8GHz i7 m640 (arrandale?)

Elitebook 2560   2.6GHz i5 2540m (Sandybridge?)

Compaq  6530b 2.4 Core2Duo

 

There is also a Sony Vaio thing about here somewhere, but it has a busted screen and has a pink case ... don't know which is worse ...

Just remembered I did manage to scrounge a rack (1U) PC that had a Intel desktop (ITX?) MB in it - popular rumour was that it had an i7 quad core thing in it - I would prefer a laptop setup but that could be a reasonable option, if true. I have a scrapped "shuttle" case somewhere that it would fit in (that was a AMD MB, with a busted PSU - the Intel board uses an external 19V 7.5A brick PSU (very HP)

Elitebook 8440b: Should work. If it's using onboard graphics, you'll need to do some work to make it work though: http://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/286092-guide-1st-generation-intel-hd-graphics-qeci/

 

Elitebook2560: Sandy Bridge is supported as of 10.6.8, so there shouldn't be much of a hassle there either

Compaq 6530b: Core2Duo works, though I believe it comes with intel GMA 4500 -> unsupported

The 6530 has a poor screen (not LED) so wouldn't really want that anyway - I have Ubuntu on it but never got around to learning on it. The 2650 is one of the "Apple look" in that it is very aluminium with the same style keys - nice and bright too, probably because it only has to light up a 12" screen. The 8440 is a better size but has been given a bit more of a hard life so it looks really old and beaten up

 

If Sandy bridge is only supported from 10.6.8 then I wonder how I could get around the fact that I only have a SL 10.6 (.0 presumably) DVD. That was why I was using that "other" ivybridge boot. The Probook 6570b is a good balance of size and pretty.

 

I am a bit worried that having come to this party so late that my inane questions will annoy people as they had answered all that stuff soooo loong ago. I see that there is a tutorial thread here - perhaps I should go an read all of that before unloading a very convincing "hard of thinking" act ...

As of Sandy Bridge, I believe you can install it by using a fake CPUID or a patched kernel, but not sure.

You might ask @Chris1111 for help for both your probook 6570b (he uses the same) as well as Sandy Bridge. I believe he runs Snow Leopard on his Sandy Bridge desktop.
