bronxbomber92
Is Unity3D worth the price it costs(I have very limited money)? Or should I stick with a free engine like Irrlicht ir Ogre3D?
pmudesign
I think it's worth it. I bought an iMac just to use Unity and my game development has improved 10x. Here's an article I wrote: http://www.creativemac.com/articles/viewarticle.jsp?id=82608 The best deal is to start with the "Indie" license (about $250) and develop most of your game (or demo) then upgrade to a "Pro" license after your demo has been bought by a publisher. That way Unity is a bargain price wise. Be advised, for some reason Unity won't work with OSX86 clones. Apparently a couple people have tried but as far as I know, none have succeeded. transamMAC
Be advised, for some reason Unity won't work with OSX86 clones. Apparently a couple people have tried but as far as I know, none have succeeded. I know this is a very old post to bring back up so I apologize, I just wanted to state that I built my hackintosh system in order to try out the unity3d demo as I was very curious about using it for a video game project I am working on with another engine in windows. I am running the Unity3D demo at over 90-150 frames per second with my system set up. The compiled project runs much faster on my PC since I can use DX9 rather then OpenGL on that same system. I know a lot has changed since November of 2006 in the osx86 project but just wanted to make it known that aosx86 clone with the right hardware and drivers will run unity with out any problems at all.
