Boot camp error -- cannot install Windows 10

Hi,

I have a new 2016 iMac 5k 27", so it's got a fresh install of El Capitan. I have a fusion drive with 128GB flash and another standard hard drive.

I'm trying to use Boot Camp to install Windows 10. I have a Windows install USB, which Boot Camp detects and accepts, but every time it goes to format the hard drive for the windows install, it fails. This error is shown. This happens when trying to format either hard drive, the SSD or the HDD.

Your disk could not be partitioned. An error occurred while partitioning the disk.

I have tried all the online help about repairing the disk using Disk Utility and doing /sbin/fsck -fy in single user mode, but it makes no difference. The disk is not damaged, it's brand new!

NB: the error occurs only a few seconds into the disk formatting progress.

The only thing that I've changed on my iMac is that I've split my fusion drive into two individual hard drives (the SSD and the standard HDD) using these steps. This might be the cause of the issue, but it might not have any effect, I don't know. Even if it is causing it, there must be a work around -- I want to be able to control what I put on each hard drive myself.

Is there a work around for this?

iMac (Retina 5K, 27-inch, Late 2015), OS X El Capitan (10.11.3)

I don't think the bootcamp is supported on fusion drives, but I may be wrong though...

Edit:

If so, you could manually format and shrink your partition and format it in disk utility as MSDOS and boot your iMac with holding on alt/option button and insert your bootable windows medium to install it on that reserved MSDOS partition.

Thanks for the reply!

I believe Boot Camp is supported, or it should work according to the help files...

I've tried installing Windows manually as you suggest, and the formatting bit works fine, it's just that the Windows installation itself always results in an error. I think there's something on the newer Macs to prevent Windows from being installed manually. So I think I have to go with Boot Camp.

Does anyone have any ideas around fixing Boot Camp?

Thanks.

The procedure should work, as long as you have a bootable UEFI windows medium... Search for how to create it for UEFI and try with it.
