Hello Community,

Yesterday the following problem appeared:

Final Cut Pro X crashes randomly when importing media or editing projects.

System Information:

Mobo: ASRock Z77 Extreme4
Proc: Intel i5 3570k
Graphic: ASUS GTX 560 DirectCU II OC
OS: Mac OS Yosemite - 10.10.3

Software: Final Cut Pro X 10.2.1
Drivers: Nvidia Nvidia Web Driver - 346.01.02f04 - Set to use OSX Drivers in nVidia Control Panel

System Definition: MacPro5,1

I attached the crash files which contain sometimes different errors but always an Graphics Card error.

I selected four of them for all of the following scenarios.

I had the nVidia Web Drivers installed and uninstalled them for a test, but the crashes where still there.

I then switched to the nVidia Web Drivers usage from OSX native in the nVidia control panel, but the error was there again.

Switching from my iMac System Definition to the MacPro5,1 Definition has not resolved the problem.

After that I decided to update my Final Cut Pro X from 10.2 to 10.2.1 but no changes at all.

As of today i reinstalled my Sapphire HD 5670 ATI card, but the problem still persists.

Not so often, but it already happened again 30 Minutes ago.

Some Help would be great, so I can continue editing the Videos ;)

Thanks for any Help

  • 1 month later...

Those are two separate issues - nVidia freezing / crashing VS ATI crashing.

I can tell you that nVidia is because that card is not 100% supported. Basic issue (as i understand it) is that when grpahic card has to switch the power mode (0 to 100% or vice versa) then its not fully working.

Back in the day ... (last year) there were some edits you suppose to do to the KEXTs to fix the power modes. Never worked for me.

There is a free utility out there (getting harder to find now). You suppose to load that up as startup, it never lets the gpu go down to 0% power mode and usually save you from crashing. Harsh it sounds, this utility not suppose to effect anything (sleep or temprature or power consumption) - Its called "freezefix". If you can't find it - pm me, I should have a copy somewhere.

I have a 550Ti - it works most of times but does crash once in a while while editing (never at import though)

Im use FCPX Professional Wedding VGA R9 270x 4GB DDR5 very beast very speed, no crash no block

not all nvidia cards work well with FCPX are few models, while the ATI HD, R9 are more compatible
