VMWare Workstation 11 on Win8.1 host, freezes

Just thought I'd share my recent experience with installing Yosemite under VMWare Workstation 11 on a new system with a core i7 5960x.

The system has 64GB RAM. The host OS is Win8.1 (regular, not Pro). Latest patches.

I installed Win8.1 as a guest OS, PCLinuxOS as a second guest, and Yosemite as a third guest. Everything works.

Interestingly, I *cannot* run PCLinuxOS or OSX when I have the Win8.1 guest running. The mouse and keyboard is only recognized by the Windows guest. When I switch to either of the other guests, they do not receive any mouse or keyboard input (not even delayed). Shutting down the Windows guest immediately resolves the issue for the other guests.

Using full-screen doesn't help. Hitting ctrl-G (grab input) does nothing. Setting one of the "frozen" guests to exclusive mode is a bad idea since now it is impossible to switch to another guest within Workstation. You can still alt-tab to other processes, but Workstation is borked.

I noticed on the VMWare forums that people were complaining about lots of freezes since upgrading to Workstation 11. Hopefully VMWare will issue a fix.

Notably, the only non-standard thing I did with my guest installs was that the Windows guest was given a physical drive for its install and running. I couldn't get it to work with SATA (even though it's a SATA drive) so I used SCSI. It works but perhaps this is related to the freezes.
