"Empty" desktop after installation and update

Hello All,

 

I tried to google and search the forums for this problem.

 

My hardware is:

Abit IP35Pro

Intel Core 2 Quad Q9550

Diamond 5770

 

OSx is 10.6.3 retail, installs and updates to 10.6.8 successfully following tonymacx86's [url="http://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/279450-why-insanelymac-does-not-support-tonymacx86/"]#####[/url] guide.

Once it reboots, the desktop shows up without any icons and finder, just the background is displayed like this, no login window or anything:

 

But when I press F11 or F12, the brightness decreases or increases, the hard disk light shows activity for some time as well. There is no mouse cursor though. Both keyboard and mouse are USB devices.

 

Any help in this will be greatly appreciated.
