Problems with on-board ethernet nForce adaptor

While trying to explore Snow Leopard 10.6.2 ("Hazard") on GA-M56S-S3 mobo, I noticed following "misfeatures" of SL:

  • The on-board network interface has very low throughput: around 400 KB/s, compared to more than 10x more, when running Linux on the same hardware.
  • The adaptor isn't activated by automatic at boot-up time. I've got to open "network settings", and only then it's detected always as new eth interface (eth2, eth3 and so on), although there are still present the settings from last time, when I switched to OSX.

Any cure available for the above? Thanks in advance for any "tips & tricks".
