Help with a dual booting problem

Well, i decided to Dual boot Hackintosh (iDeneb) and Windows 7 on my HP laptop. I got OS X up and running and i can't seem to repair my Windows 7. The installation disk can't find and fix the problem automatically, so i went to Command line prompt and when i type it Bootrec.exe/scanOS is says that it can't find any installed windows on the disks. I am 100% sure i did not over write my windows partition with the OS X and honestly, i have no idea how to get Windows running again without having to install from scratch. Help?

Hi, I was in the same exact boat as you for the past few days. I also had a previously installed win7 on my desktop, but it seemed that after installing osx, i was not able to access my win7. I found out that once you disable AHCI, windows cannot load into OS. I would get BSOD when loading when using SATA AHCI. I also had an option to select windows or ##### from the windows boot manager because I had used easyBCD from a previous dual boot attempt. I tried system repair and bootrec as well with no luck

The problem is, if you install windows prior to changing SATA to AHCI mode, windows will not be able to load (I had win7 installed since summer '10, and I also did NOT want to start from scratch). What I did was change my windows registry so that it would load with SATA AHCI mode.

1. Change your SATA from 'AHCI' to 'disabled' via the BIOs. This should allow you to boot back into windows

2. Boot into windows with ##### or from ##### (I could access it without #####/##### because i had a previously botched EasyBCD attempt. hopefully you have a way to load into your original windows)

3. Once you are in windows, you will need to edit the registry.

From here on after, I used the instructions from here: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/922976

4. click start, type 'regedit' in the search box, then hit enter.

click continue if you get a user account control box. I edited it under the msahci

5. Navigate to one of the following subsections: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\Services\Msahci OR HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\Services\IastorV

6. right click on start on the right hand side, then Modify.

7. Change the value to '0' (mine was originally 3)

8. Reboot, and test that windows can still boot. I think there's a chance it will not, but it loaded just fine for me.

9. If it loads okay, reset and go into BIOs, set the SATA mode from disabled and back to AHCI.

10. Test to make sure both OS X and windows work.

I hope it works for you, this problem you described was really bugging me, but that seemed to work for me. This is my first post too :hysterical:
