bradm
Has anyone managed to get MAC OSX onto a Gateway LT2032U Netbook? Here are the specs for the netbook: Processor Intel® Atom™ Processor1 N270 (1.6GHz, 533MHz FSB, 512KB L2 Cache) Memory 1024MB DDR2 533MHz SDRAM Single Channel Memory10 Hard Drive 250GB SATA hard drive Chassis Chassis with Intel® Graphics Media Accelerator 950 and Mobile Intel® 945GSE Express Chipset Wireless Network 802.11b/g Wi-Fi CERTIFIED System Info shows this as: Atheros AR9285 Wireless Network Adapter PCI-Express ID: 168c:1026 Network 10/100 Ethernet LAN (RJ-45 port) System Info shows this as: Atheros AR8132 Fast Ethernet ID: 1969:1062 Battery 6-Cell Lithium Ion (5200mAh) Display 10.1" SD WSVGA High Brightness LED-backlit Display (1024 x 600 resolution) External Ports (3) USB 2.0, VGA Connector Keyboard and Mouse Keyboard with Multi-Gesture Touchpad Media Card Reader Multi-in-1 Digital Media Card Reader (Memory Stick®, Memory Stick Pro™, MultiMediaCard, Secure Digital™, xD-Picture Card™) Sound High-Definition Audio Support, Built-In speakers, Microphone, Headphone (with Dolby® Headphone Technology)/Speaker/Line-Out Jack Web Camera Integrated Webcam I have tried 10.6.3, iAtkos S3 v2, etc. Either I cannot get it to install or it will and just reboot, etc. The BIOS does support AHCI. This is a nice little netbook with some good battery life (7-9 hours) with Windows XP. I want to be able to put MAC OSX on it for my wife since she likes mac so much more than Windows. If anyone has any good instructions (step-by-step hopefully...) on how to get this running it would be greatly appreciated. I already got MAC OSX 10.6.5 running on my desktop (minus half of my speakers on my Realtek HD Audio card). Thank you very much, Brad
Markrtoon
Finally somebody who has the same netbook as me!!!!!!!!!!!! I'll write an entire tutorial on how to install Kalyway on here, because iAtkos works, but the wifi doesn't in iAtkos. Download the Install CD for Kalyway 10.5.2, you'll have to do some updating to get it to 10.5.8. Boot it up, and pretty much select what you need. You'll need to select for the install of the Intel GMA950 drivers, and Natit. If you get bluescreen after you get finished installing. Then you may have to wait a little for while. Try a -v bootup, if neither of those work, if you've got an external monitor, try plugging it in.. THEN FOR WIFI!!! You'll need to install this! http://cl.ly/0i3T2b2L1r0w1t3Z3z46 My ethernet doesn't work in windows, but I'll try to help you with that. And I can't get the webcam to work in Photo Booth, but it works in any other app, so I'm working on that.
bradm
Whew. I thought I was the only sucker with this one. Was beginning to wonder. LOL. Got it for my wife for XMAS last year. Came with the stupid Win7 Starter. What a joke. Could not even change the wallpaper on it. But ended up upgrading to another version of Win7 for her and got it running really good but she likes Apple and well...this is about as close as the budget will allow. Working on getting the CD now. Should be ready to go with it tomorrow. Will get on working on this once I get done with my grandsons 2nd birthday party. Would be nice to get the WIFI working. What about the Ethernet port? Does that work or not? As for the updating to 10.5.8...how hard is that? How do you go about the updating on it? Would it be possible to get it up to 10.6.5, etc. or is 10.5.8 the furthest that it can go and still work? iAtkos did seem to work pretty good when I was able to get it on there. Rebooted and started up from the HDD instead of boot cd just fine. Like you said I could not get the WIFI or ethernet to work at all. I really do appreciate the help you have given me so far on this. Glad to know there is some hope for getting this up and running. Its such a nice little netbook to carry around and we only paid $280 for it. I will get the Kalyway and try to get it up and running and post back on it. Any other helpful notes would be good if you have them. Thank you, Brad
Markrtoon
Did you upgrade to Home Premium? About the upgrading, I believe you have too download the regular apple update, install it, and then reinstall the kernel for the OS. And about 10.6.5, I haven't gotten that high, I'm only on 10.6.3, but it runs fantastically, and I've ran the Kalyway that I recommended as well, it was fantastic. So I'll work on 10.6.5. Ethernet: I'm pretty sure it'll work. Just use kext helper b7 to install. http://cl.ly/0J0t422m2a0G0q0U122X Our netbook is pretty well supported for a hackintosh. And did you get the screen resolution working right?

About the upgrading, I believe you have too download the regular apple update, install it, and then reinstall the kernel for the OS. (What regular apple update? Are we talking going from the 10.5.2 install straight to 10.6.3 install? Is this the regular update from apple or the combo update?) Install new kernel for the OS? What kernel? Our netbook is pretty well supported for a hackintosh. Thankfully. And did you get the screen resolution working right? If you are meaning for the windows resolution I will have to check it. I honestly can't remember. Right now the HDD is blanked out from the many many failed OSX attempts. She has the Windows 7 Ultimate. Everything seemed to be working fine. I would love to be able to dual boot it for her with OSX and Windows 7. XP sucks and can stay where it is.

No, we're talking about going from like 10.5.2 to 10.5.8, you can't goto 10.6.5. I mean everything works in 10.6.5, except for wifi. It's alright, we'll get everything resolved. What do you mean by the HDD is blanked out? Windows 7 Ultimate!!?! My goodness!

I mean everything works in 10.6.5, except for wifi. Well 10.6.3 or .4 will work as long as the WIFI works on it. Don't want to hear her grump about being tied to the wire. My goodness in this day and age that would kill someone to be tethered on a laptop. lol. It's alright, we'll get everything resolved. Patience is definitely a virtue. Well until my grandson is wearing me out here tonight playing football. His 2 years old to my 40. What a blast. What do you mean by the HDD is blanked out? Last I messed with it yesterday I just reformatted it again to try another install until I gave up on it. Windows 7 Ultimate!!?! My goodness! Yup. Could not pass up on it. Got it as a gift so went with the flow. I will work on this tomorrow sometime after lunch and the birthday party. Going on 10pm here and gotta get my grandson into bed as well as us. I have about 2 hours or so on the Kalyway download. Should be done by morning. Hopefully have some time to mess with it when I get up and hook up the external DVD USB drive and get on it and let you know what comes of it. bradm
I was able to get the Kalyway 10.5.2 DVD and burnt it but it will not boot up on the external DVD drive to boot it up and install it. Am I doing something wrong or is there a boot disc needed for it? Thanks, Brad

bradm
Won't boot up meaning I hook up the USB external dvd drive to boot the Kalyway disc so I can try to install it and it won't even boot from the drive or even attempt to boot from it at all for nothing in the world. It just passes it up like there isn't any bootable dvd or cd in the drive. about to give up on this stupid netbook. Spent 2 weeks of my time so far trying to get it to work on this stupid Gateway. Found help with trying to get it done by Kalyway and the stupid one I downloaded can't even boot up for nothing to even install it on the netbook. Wasted time and numerous dvds for this mess. What a joke.
Markrtoon
It works, I've gotten it too, when I first got my netbook, and I went into the BIOS, to change the boot disk, it did not want to boot from CD, but eventually, I MADE it boot from CD, so now it boots everytime.. As far as yours, Go into the BIOS by hitting the F2 key as the Gateway Logo Flashes, and turn on the F12 boot key, then when you stick the CD in, hit the F12 key while it starts up, with the CD in the drive, and it should bring up a list of boot choices. Choose the removable drive. If it boots to another drive, shut that OS down, and try it again.

The only other drive for it to boot to is the HDD which is completely blank with nothing installed on it at all. I honestly thing the DVD image is bad for it to be honest. I got it from TPB. Not sure where to find another image of it that is verified to be working unless you have a location by chance for the one you used. Trying to burn it again with Disc Utility on my PC MAC. I tried before with Nero and no luck. What did you use to burn the image with? Nero, UltraISO, etc?
Markrtoon
I always use windows built in ISO burner, always works fine.
bradm
I always use windows built in ISO burner, always works fine. Got it and just got done trying that one along with Disc Utility. Both of them give me a BOOT0: error on trying to boot from the install disc. This is the image I have been trying to burn: Kalyway 10.5.2 DVD Intel_AMD (sse2/sse3) EFI V8 from TPB
Markrtoon
Hmm that's the right one.
bradm
Hmm that's the right one. I thought so. I have MADE it boot from external dvd drive with other boot discs but this one will not for anything which is weird. You just burnt the ISO just like it is and got it to boot from it with no problem? Markrtoon
Yup pretty much.. xD I guess I'm lucky.
bradm
I'll say considering we have the same netbook. Definitely weird. Really weird. I am trying to download the iso image again to see what happens. Going pretty fast at 1.3 mbps download. Should be done here soon. But lets make sure I have this right: You burnt the ISO as is and booted up straight from it by external dvd drive and was able to get it to go into install and setup from there. Correct? Markrtoon
Alright, Who's internet do you have!? I have At&t, and right now, my speeds are below a 56k modem.
bradm
Alright, Who's internet do you have!? I have At&t, and right now, my speeds are below a 56k modem. AT&T Uverse for TV and Internet. I have the 12 mbps package. 12mbps download, 1.5mbps upload. Depends upon the site too that is hosting the files. If I download from Apple I get full max download (1.3mbps to 1.5mbps). If site is slow then it goes slow. All depends. Wished they had the 24mbps available in my area. I would upgrade in a heartbeat with 4 people here on internet for whatever reasons (online gaming, surfing, netflix through Wii console, etc). Tends to slow it down some. Markrtoon
I just have their regular DSL package. We used to have Uverse, but it got a little expensive.
bradm
I just have their regular DSL package. We used to have Uverse, but it got a little expensive. Yes it can. That is why we are cutting the TV part since we are past the 2 year contract. We are just going to keep the internet. Anything we watch, if we do, can be found on the internet. bradm
Ok think I am finally getting somewhere. I just got the Kalyway redownloaded for the 2nd time. This time when I pull it up in PowerISO it does not give me any error about it not being a recoginizable format like the other. The information I see so far shows me a BootHelp.txt file and cdboot.pcefi.debug file. I could not see those on the other version. Time to try it now on this darned netbook and see how it goes.
