TRBMan
I have an Acer Aspire 5745 laptop. Specs below. Intel® Core™ i5-450M 4GB (2/2) DDR3 1066 SDRAM 320GB hard drive BD Drive not to sure about the motherboard or anything. I've been following the ##### + ##### guide that is found here to install Snow Leopard on my PC. I've successfully booted into OS X (with a few minor issuse) and set up my account, browsed the web, etc. However when the guide says to install Combo Update 10.6.4, my system crashes before the update can complete. It says something to the effect "You need to restart your computer. Hold down the power button for several seconds or press the restart button". i'm gonna try iATKOS_S3 as soon as its done downloading, but i didn't know if there was anything else I was doing wrong that someone could help me with. I plan on making this a dual boot machine with Windows 7. The BIOS settings are set to AHCI and i made sure I formatted the parition with the correct settings. please help! TRBMan EDIT------------- iATKOS S3 didn't work. i booted in verbose mode and took a screen shot of the kernel panic here. please help! I'm currently installing OS X and I was gonna try to boot the /mach_kernel after the setup. i couldn't boot the retail disc using /mach_kernel because it would just restart my computer and not boot the OS X disc. EDIT------- everytime i use the /mach_kernel flag, whether before the setup, or on the partition that Snow Leopard gets installed too, my computer just restarts. TRBMan
using the HP disc that you just gave me made the install fail. it went through the install process for 20 minuets like it always does, but instead of the install succeeding, it failed. it has always installed correctly with the ##### disc. don't know what it could be. EDIT---------- even though it said install failed, i was able to boot into Snow Leopard using the "rd(0,0)/extra/legacy_kernel -v" flag couple issues though. trackpad doesn't work, no sound, no battery support, cant change resolution or brightness of screen, webcam doesn't work. SupahFly
TRBMan, I'm in more or less the exact situation you're in. My machine is an i5 Acer Aspire TimelineX so I guess it is similar to yours. I have dual graphics, a standard intel one and an ATI Mobility 5650 card but I haven't been able to install or boot with the ATI switched on. I managed to run and install successfully using ##### supported with the flags -x EHCIacquire=No UHCIreset=No I don't know why I need the last two, but I get EBIOS errors immidiately when I don't provide them. I installed 10.6.2 from a usb stick. After install I can start osx with my intel card with just the EHCIacquire=No flag. Like you, I was following the guide and when I went to do an update to 10.6.4, I get the exact same crash just at the end of the install process. WHen I rebooted however, I actually booted up osx again and it says I have 10.6.4. I still can't enable my ATI card though and running ##### (which Im not even sure what it does) I thereafter couldnt run windows7 (from another partition). I would like to know how I can get a successful update to 10.6.4 without a kernel panic, how I can make my osx boot without the ##### cd (without messing up my existing windows7 install preferably), and if it is possible for me to turn on my ATI 5650 card somehow. I really don't know what to try next and would be really grateful if someone could shove me in the right direction.
iPhoneBlogr
I have the same exact computer as OP, same specs(i5) except I can't even get as far as they've managed. I am using the same #####+##### tutorial and I have tried both ##### Supported and ##### Nvidia and the same exact thing happens with both. When I get to the Chameleon prompt I eject my ##### disc and insert Mac OSX 10.6.2 Snow Leopard and press f5, but when I press f5 the disc dissappears and this weird smudge shows up across all the text. I can still make out the text though, from left to right it goes: System Restore | Windows NT | OSX(the blank partition I've created to install on) | Then there's an icon of a hard drive with no text under it. Here is what I mean: Any ideas why this might be happening?? And yes I have enabled SATA mode AHCI in Bios already. Thanks in advance!
