Kernel Panics...sometimes

about half the time i start up my newly built computer running snow leopard i get a kernel panic and have to power cycle it. I try it again, it will boot successfully and run fairly well in snow leopard. The kernel panic gives very little information - just says to power cycle. How should i go about troubleshooting this? I have the following hardware:

core2 quad q8400 2.66ghz

evga 512-p3-n871-ar geforce 9800gtx

gigabyte ga-ep45-u3dp

4gb gskill 240 pin ddr2 1066 5-5-5-15

WD raptor (old school version) 146 gig SATA

400 gig SATA II drive

SATA CD Rom

Floppy drive

Sorry if this is an obvious question. Again - it will run fine in snow leopard for days once i can get it to get through the boot. Fails about half the time.
