Snow Leopard on Thinkpad T60p - almost booted, no GUI/desktop

My Thinkpad T60p worked perfectly with 10.5.8, however 10.6 is not booting - it doesn't kernel panic but it doesn't finish booting into the GUI/desktop. I installed SL to a separate hard drive, I used the latest Chameleon RC3 to boot properly, IOATAFamily.kext from 10.5.8 to get past the AppleIntelPIIX KP, smbios.plist, Voodoo Power, Battery & PS2 and that's it. The video card is a Radeon X1600 - previously I just added 0x71C41002 to the ATIRadeonX1000.kext but that didn't work, nor did adding it to ATI1600XController.kext. I removed all of the ATI kexts and used all of my 10.5.8 kexts (including ATIinject.kext) also, still no GUI. I read about adding an EFI string to my Boot.plist but when I used gfxutil to generate the string, there was no reference to my ATI card. Using fakesmc or dsmos did not make a difference either. Permissions are all correct. I do not have a DSDT as I didn't have one in Leopard. Finally, AppleACPIPCI.kext doesn't appear to load correctly - a bunch of dependancies appear with the letter z in front of them but the system continues to boot anyway. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated, thanks.
