jbk
I am baffled. I have been trying for days and cannot get XP to boot on my Mini: dual core, 2G ram, superdrive,17" cornea LCD (using VGA adapter) I have burned slipstream CD's by every recommended method, even the latest using XOM helper (which did not work for some reason). I have been reading all the forums (these and others) and WIKI's and have tried each and every idea. My system hangs at the black and white XP boot step, no amount of F6 or G enter enter changes anything. The only thing I have only done once is burn using Nero 7. There were problems with the proceedure vs the reality, but I think I finally got it right... no use. I have tried every resolution on the LCD, I have slipstreamed the driveraddded patch, I hace formatted till I am blue. I have no way to be sure my slipstreamed boot disk is totally kosher... could someon pot something to allow me to make sure? The only thing unique in my system might be the amount of RAM... I am using a legal store bought XP with SP2 CD for the start point. Anybody want to offer ideas?
MacMiniTester
Larkin, I had the same problem, but got it fixed by doing this. Press g and press Enter. Then one more time Press g and press Enter. And after about 10-20 seconds you should see Windows Xp booting again. Hope this helps. Michael

jbk
Sorry, but this doesn't work for me. When I hit the g nothing shows on the screen, then when I hit enter the cd spins up for a time and then spins down, nothing on screen changes. Same behaviour each repeat? Will someone post a dircetory listing of their XP slipstreamed disk ( hopefully the one with drivers used by XOM helper) for comparison/validation?? Am I really the only mini owner who can't get this to work?

My directory listing looks like this (<> = directory): <$OEM$> AUTORUN.INF <DOCS> <I386> NAME.BIN README.HTM SETUP.EXE SETUPXP.HTM <SUPPORT> If you need more help, can you tell me what you have done so far trying to install Windows XP. Also, do you have Core Solo or Core Duo? Michael
jbk
I really appreciate your help. Thank you. I have the core duo 1.66Ghz with 2GB DDR2 SDRAM My 'About This Mac' screen shows Boot ROM Version MM11.0048.800, SMC Version 1.3f2. I have tried 3 different displays(Dell 2305 LCD, Cornea 17CT01T LCD, and a Hitachi SS Pro 20 CRT), all set to 1280X1024 from inside OSX (though I have tried many different settings over this time). {By the way, this setting seems to get changed by the EFI}. The CRT is my current display only to try and get XP installed. Most recently I used the XOMHELPER script that was posted to both create my slipstream CD and to 'fix' the EFI. I used a store bought, street legal, Windows XP Home SP2 CD .... ooops, I think I may have found the problem. The Windows CD says Upgrade (hologram) , so that may be the issue. Off for a retry. Again I thank you for your help.
MacMiniTester
Also make sure that you use the special xom.efi for the Mac Mini, and don't forget to put back the original xom.efi back after installation of Windows XP or your screen will look weird.
