Problem with password

I downloaded the latest Lynx-2.8.7d9-10.5.1 and mounted the dmg. i clicked on install.command and i got this in the terminal

 

 

Installing From: /Volumes/Lynx-2.8.7d9-10.5.1+u

 

Enter Your password..

Password:

 

 

I had no password set, so i typed enter and I got

 

su: Sorry

 

Then i set a password, and it worked.

 

So, is it compulsory to have a password? or is there a workaround?
