  1. Any real progress for Vaio users ? My girlfriend (yeah, OSX is not my only "hobby") bought a new laptop and now I installed Lion on her old MSI EX700(Core2Duo 1.66GHz, 2GB ram, GeForce 8400GS). Everything works except sleep and the buil-in WiFi(intel 4965) but I use a usb stick. Lion is great, especially with QE/CI, but because ofthe low specs the system sometimes hangs. The keyboard is also very hard to type on (no island keys like on MacBooks and Vaios). I really wish I could get Snow Leopard or Lion with QE/CI on my Vaio, maybe even the intel wifi link 5100 agn !?!?. Thanks.
  2. Exact same thing here. Vaio VGN FW4(custom, from Sony's website in Germany), with Mobility Radeon 4650 1GB, 1080p display. I am checking this thread and two other threads 3, 4 times a day. I am in a desperate situation. I need full res and QE/CI for some OS X and iOS development. Work on these radeons is much appreciated by all of us. I hope I'm not too melodramatic but I feel so helpless, I can only sit and wait because I don't have any spare time(graduation thesis). I hope a final solution which works for all of us is coming soon. Best of wishes
  3. Sorry for responding so late. I still did't manage to get the damn kext loaded. I really don't know what I am doing wrong.I'm sure I'm doing everything by the book. I'm starting to suspect SL itself, I don't have a vanilla install, but the SnowOSX_Universal_10.6(432)GM_v3.5. I tried making my own USB installer(restoring the image to my thumb drive, installing chameleon, adding boot file from netkas and changing osinstall.mpkg to allow installation on mbr partition scheme) but it hangs on the colored spinning wheel right at the beginning.
  4. Hey, I can't get it working. I downloaded RadeonHD for SL ,i've added the .plist file from you to the kext (after renaming it "info.plist") and then I've installed the kext with kext helper, also I've deleted AtiRadeonX2000.kext. I've runed your commands: cd /System/Library/Extensions sudo chown -Rvf root:wheel RadeonHD.kext sudo chmod -Rvf 0775 RadeonHD.kext sudo chmod 0644 Contents/Info.plist sudo chmod 0644 Contents/MacOS/RadeonHD sudo chmod 0644 Contents/Resources/English.lproj/InfoPlist.strings but I got error messages when running either of the following: sudo chmod 0644 Contents/Info.plist sudo chmod 0644 Contents/MacOS/RadeonHD sudo chmod 0644 Contents/Resources/English.lproj/InfoPlist.strings saying it could not find those files, I've figured out that being in the /Extensions folder I have to specify the kext and so I've runed the commands: sudo chmod 0644 RadeonHD.kext/Contents/Info.plist sudo chmod 0644 RadeonHD.kext/Contents/MacOS/RadeonHD sudo chmod 0644 RadeonHD.kext/Contents/Resources/English.lproj/InfoPlist.strings[/code] which did not throw any errors. BUT I CANNOT manage to get the kext RadeonHD to load (I allways check in System Profiler,Software,Extensions). forgot to mention, also I have tried repairing permissions with Disk Utility after running those commands but still nothing. What should I do ? Please give me a steb-by-step guide on how to get this done.I'm tired of using SL only with 1024x768.
  5. My Vaio has HD4650,1 GB. If someone with this card(mobility version) did manage to get full resolution with mr. Dong's kext please post some information here.I am getting desperate. When using this kext am I supposed to delete AtiRadeonX2000.kext ? And do I have to add my device and vendor ID to some other kexts ? *Yup, very interested if the trick with the wireless card works
  6. Hey, I just followed the instructions from post #289 but I didn't managed to get the resolution. I am 100% sure I did everything exactly as mentioned there, but after restart (I booted with -v flag) right before the GUI the screen went funny(but not different than before). I removed the X2000.kext and now I can boot without the -x flag but, that's it, no resolution change for me. Do you have the same Vaio as mine ? (FW4 ,I ask because you have 1920x1080 which is the same as mine), If so, could it be possible to have the same EDID, I mean could your Radeon.kext work for me ? Another question, the guide from the post 289 does not say anything about the Folder Radeon src ,do I need to place that folder also in S/L/E or not ? I attached my EDID both in HEX and b64 , maybe I did something wrong after all ..... Vaio_EDID_b64.txt Vaio_EDID_HEXA.txt RadeonHD.kext.zip
  7. Hey, I followed your instructions, I mean, I added my EDID to Info.plist and I could boot into SL without "-x" boot flag. But I could not change the resolution, the only option in System Preferences was 1024x768 , and of course no QE/CI. I admit I'm not sure if I added the EDID in the corect format in my info.plist .( I have attached my .plist file). I've read somewhere that I have to convert my EDID (obtained with Phoenix from Win 7 64bit) to base 64, how can I do that ? Or is it even necessary since I use Win 7 64bit? What am I doing wrong ? since I could boot into SL I think my EDID has the right format/base but because I cannot change resolution I tend to think there is something wrong. I have also attached the EDID obtained with Phoenix. If my problem has a simple solution I would appreciate a quick how-to, even better would be if someone could edit my Info.plist and upload it. Thanks, si domnule Dong ,continua munca asta titanica, milioane de suflete te sustin mental. Info.zip Vaio_EDID.zip
  8. Also very interested in getting this video card working. My configuration: Sony Vaio VGN FW4(5X) T9600 4 GB DDR 2 SATA HDD and BD drive VIDEO: ATI Radeon 4650 ,1GB Tried everything, not even the slightest proof of any progress. What other (active) threads are there on this subject (in this or other forums), I mean getting ATI cards working, or even this (mine) specific card? Would be glad to provide feedback form testing beta versions of kexts or something, but would need a little more specific information about what exactly to test and what information to provide. Thank you verry much, I don't want to give up on OSx86 just because of my video card.
  9. Sorry for not checking this post for so long. So, I have flashed the 1.43 BIOs and averything works great, I use Voodoo 9.5.(no vanilla for me). BUT>>> I can't modify the cpu multiplier with this new BIOS neither. Please post the link to the thread where those users said that they could modify that from the new BIOS. You wrote that the CPU freq(yours) is limited to 3470 MHz due to your cheap ram, IMHO that is pretty good. I want just 2800MHz, currently use 4:5 ratio, 9x320 ,a litthe higher voltage for CPU, but I have to do this every time I boot up Windows( Vista) because I use a small tool, and can't do anything from LEO, which SUXXX.
  10. Hi! config: mobo:AsRock 4CORE 1600 TWINS P35 cpu: intel Pentium Dual Core E2180 video: Leadtek 7300 GT TDH 256 MB DDR2 2BG ram BIOS(dos version): http://www.asrock.com/mb/download.asp?Mode...T=B&ID=2121 BIOS(windows version):http://www.asrock.com/mb/download.asp?Model=4Core1600Twins-P35&T=B&ID=2122 I get all sorts of kernel panics, It seems it is each time something else(thats why i'm not posting them). Allso booting with cpus=1 flag doesn't work. I saw some guys with (almost) my computer specs and they had no problems installing and runing both cores(iAtkos and Leo4all i think). So i would appreciate very much if you could modd this BIOS. ReSpEcT 4 your work.!
  11. To ALEXDC: most likely your installation DVD isn't correctly burned. Try burning it again at 4x(or even less) with a good burning software. I had an old DVDRW which didn't burn the dvd's correctly at higher speed, now I have a new one, on SATA and now the burning speed doesn't matter.
  12. These are great news for me. I have AsRock 4CORE1600 Twins P35 and e2180 , also tried all bios'es from Kabyl but none of then did the trick. I also have a question fot the topic starter, can you modify the CPU Multiplier from the BIOS, or how do you intend to do a good overclocking, i'm just asking because I can't change that,it's greyed out in the BIOS. And what jumper settings do you use, I can't find a helpful guide to set fsb:dram ratio so I can overclock the system at least from the FSB. Thanks.
  13. Sorry, but I want to be sure: I have flashed the BIOS made by Kabyl and nothing changed, so I wanted to know if there is anybody with a AsRock 4CORE1600 Twins P35 mobo (maybe e2180 ,sata HDD and DVD-RW) that can confirm this BIOS working on this motherboard. I used kalyway 10.5.2 ,vanilla Kernel and Netkas SMBIOS .(now 10.5.4 ,first kalyway combo update, with same kernel, then software update, and new kernel) If there is a confirmation, I would appreciate if I could get some info about the optiones needed to be done in the BIOS and also which distro was used. Thank you very much.
  14. Yes, I did try there. But nothing happens it's almost* like the original BIOS/ *I noticed that the kernel panic I get when booting Kalyway 10.5.2 without "cpus=1" flag ,is somehow differen, there aren't any files pointed as potential source for the panic ,instead I get lots of hex code(I think it's hex). I'm starting to loose my faith, everything works great but the performance could be better with both cores. Is there anybody who has my mobo and similar specs that can confirm this BIOS works ?? If so, which distro did u use ? I have tryed them all, no kidding, all 10.4 and 10.5 I could find. Is there anybody else who's making modified BIOS'es ? Thanks.
  15. Hello Mr. Kabyl. I appreciate the work you do.The world would be a better place if there were more like you. I have also a request for a modded BIOS. Mobo: AsRock 4CORE1600 Twins P35 CPU : e2180 sata HDD and sata DVD-RW (because of the JMicron controller) Problem: I can't even boot the DVD without the "cpus=1" flag excepting Kalyway 10.5.2, for Leo4All I need that flag and also for any Tiger distro. Also for any Iatkos DVD(v1,v2,v3,4) it is impossible to boot I get an error, something like :Apple.com.<dunno> has dependencies on both apple.<smth> and <apple.kernel.<smth> (i don't remember the exact syntax). Yesterday I downloaded from a bay an iso called "Leo4Allv4" , I checked the homepage, and the latest one is v3 but I gave it a shot and I could boot just with "-v" flag but after the installation i wasn't able to boot into OS X without "cpus=1" so it was something like a false alarm, just wanted to report this, maybe it helps somehow. Link to BIOS: http://download.asrock.com/bios/775/4Core1...s-P35(1.40).zip http://download.asrock.com/bios/775/4Core1...s-P35(1.40).zip Note:A friend with the same mobo(but different cpu, think it was e4300) found a hacked BIOS on the internet,he couldn't remember where he got it from, but it didn't work. Maybe there needs something else to be done for my configuration. Is it possible to make a version that can be flashed from Windows? or do I have to buy a floppy disk drive?(wouldnt be that bad, if this would be the price for both cores working:D ) Thank you very much.
