  1. The flat wire you mention is the data cable. Since you have only one working DVD drive the middle connector should not be connected to a drive. The end connector should be connected to the working DVD drive. That DVD drive should be jumpered as a master since it is connected to the end connector. There should be info either on the rear or near the jumpers that indicate which setting the jumpers are for. CS is cable select, MA is master, and SL is slave. You'll want to place the jumper across the two pins that indicate MA or master. The jumpers on DVD drives are usually to the left of the connector for the PATA ribbon cable when you are looking at the rear of the drive. I'll try to add a link that includes pictures of the jumper settings soon. Here's a link to a post that contains pictures of a DVD drive that shows the location of the jumpers. You can even see the jumper settings imprinted into the enclosure just above the jumper pins themselves. Gringo Vermelho has posted some great information below that explains the different types of drives and other info including driver information that may be very useful to you. Hopefully with all that information you can get past the problem you are having. Once you get the drive hooked up correctly and the jumpers set correctly the DVD drive should show up in the BIOS as a master. I've personally never had much luck with "cable select" settings so I have always used the primary/master depending on which connector on the ribbon cable was connected to the drive.
  2. I suggest doing what praetorius has recommended and removing the faulty DVD drive. If you don't want to actually physically remove that drive for whatever reason you can disconnect the ribbon cable and power cable from it so that it cannot interfere with the other DVD drive on that cable. I suggest attaching the end connector on the ribbon cable to the working DVD drive and jumpering it as a master. Make sure the computer is powered off and that the power cable is unplugged before doing anything like that. You probably know that but I just want to make certain.
  3. I'm using an OCZ Vertex 2 SATA II 3.5" 120GB SSD on my hackintosh system. It works great. I've enable TRIM also. I wish SSD drives were cheaper. I'd be using them for all my system drives. I'm currently running 10.7.3. The system is really fast, including boot up and shutdown.
  4. Try this: http://www.mymac4music.com/2011/10/boot0-error/
  5. MaLd0n here is the send_me.zip for my ASUS P8P67 Deluxe. Please create me a DSDT.aml file. Thank you in advance. send_me.zip
  6. I decided to backup my files and wipe the hard drive and do a clean installation of Lion. After doing all that the issue is resolved. Disk Utility will now successfully create and format a new partition on a USB key. I noticed that before Lion seemed to take longer to boot than Snow did but after doing the clean install that is no longer the case. It now seems to shut down and boot up quicker. Thanks for your help CooSee! Have a great day!
  7. Yes I did try other slots. Thanks for testing and letting me know.
  8. First a little background. Hackintosh built March 02, 2011 Initially installed OS X v10.6.3 from retail DVD then upgraded to 10.6.6, 10.6.7, and finally 10.6.8 as those versions were released. I decided to try Lion so I purchased it via the App Store and followed the instructions to upgrade via USB stick. The upgrade went fine and all has been well until today. I tried to use Disk Utility in Lion to wipe an 8Gb USB memory stick out and to create a new single partition on that stick. When I do it appears to wipe the existing partition table and then to create the new one, but then it hangs when trying to format the new partition in the Mac OS Extended (Journaled) format. I thought it might be a bad USB stick so I tried 2 more USB sticks but ended up with the same results. I even tried formatting using the FAT file system and still no joy. So my question is has anyone successfully created and formatted a USB Key using Disk Utility in Lion? Any ideas on how I can fix my issue? As far as I can tell everything else is working great.
