After a few hours of trying to get the 7600 to work in 64 bit mode and getting the hardware acceleration back to the way it was before 10.6.3; I have success. The solution is very simple.. Just copy the following kexts from 10.6 retail install to their appropriate destination :

In system/library/extensions

Geforce.kext

Geforce7xxxGLDriver.bundle

Geforce8000GLDriver.bundle

GeforceGA.plugin

GeforceGLDriver.bundle

GeforceVADriver.bundle

NVDANV40Hal.kext

NVDAN50Hal.kext

NVDAResman.kext

NVSMU.kext

In system/library/framework

OpenCL.framework

OpenGL.framework

Thanks for your nice information!

I tried to use 7800GT on 10.6.6 but only without Q/E.

I roll back these kexts & frameworks to 10.6.0, and inject EFI strings with EFIstudio,

then I can see FrontRow and screen saver working. :(

edit: But I try to play chess, then kernel panic will happen.

make sure you're using the latest chameleon and don't use efi strings.

Thank you so much for that very useful information. I had given up on getting my Go 7400 working with the 64-bit kernel until I stumbled across your post. Then today, I decided to give it another shot and in searching around found some comments indicating that 7x00 chips lost 64-bit support in or after I think, 10.6.3 and so I started thinking about rolling back drivers. You just saved me a LOT of work. I could have been swapping these out one-by-one for hours and I still might have overlooked the Frameworks components.

I have a few questions if you don't mind, as the Chess program causes KP on my machine too, and while I don't use it very often, I just can't stand it when things don't work right<g>:

1 - What Chameleon version are you using - I've got 2.0 RC5 pre 8 r60 which was, I think, the current version as of your post? (Though, I could definitely be wrong here<g>!)

2 - Are you using NVEnabler 64.kext?

3 - Have you specified GraphicsEnabler Yes?

Right now, I've got 10.6.4 on this machine, but I just upgraded my other laptop to 10.6.7 - it has Radeon Mobility x1400 graphics, and I can say that that too was a lot of fun to get QE/CI working with.

Thank you, again, for this very helpful post,

Doc

Maybe you don't need to do anything. Read this and make up your own mind:

As you can see from a user point of view there is not much difference between 32- and 64-bit modes - as long as your CPU is 64-bit capable of course.

On OS X the main difference between 32- and 64-bit mode are the drivers and kernel.

You can run 64-bit apps and use up to 32GB RAM in 32-bit mode.

I don't think you'll see improved graphics performance on your 7xxx card by running in 64-bit kernel and drivers mode with *old drivers and frameworks from 10.6.2* - I believe you will get better graphics performance by running in 32-bit kernel and drivers mode so that you can use the latest nvidia drivers.

It would be interesting to see some benchmarks that can prove or disprove my theory.
