Possible Dev DVD Being Leaked Soon

xSuRgEx

the guys over @ http://forums.krazynonsense.com/showthread...p?p=448#post448

are talking about the dev dvd for osx86 being leaked to morrrow the day after.

i dont know if there is any truth behind this. but it would be great to finaly get our hands on this fantastic OS.

i hope we can still reach the target for our Dev kit donations. because it will help with the cracking of the TCPA that apple has put into

osx86.

Those files cdboot and boot on the developer DVD are what have the "unsupported configuration" thing hardcoded into them. It could be possible to use the ones from the Darwin cd, or to compile some from the 8.1 release and put them on the Apple developer DVD to get it to boot on any x86 system. After that it would be all the TPM deal.

i replaced the cdboot file in the leaked dvd image with the one from darwin 8.01 and in vmware the white _ thing jumps around on the screen randomly its kinda wierd

but it didnt work i did think about swapping every file with the same name but id rather try my luck with 8.1 darwin

So what's going on with this? http://www.osx86.classicbeta.com/wiki/inde...x.php/Main_Page claims as "breaking news" (now three days old) that a real leak has been put on torrent sites. I've read the posts in this forum and users claim to have downloaded and found real dev copies. If this is infact authentic, why has no other site like Engadget or Slashdot picked up on it? I haven't seen a torrent on any of the major torrent sites as the article claims.

hey larrybird i think im speaking for the rest of osx86 community we dont want the dvd to be known of specially right now geek sites will really get us in trouble :) its bad enough how fast it got onto sites that had nothing to do with computers

go to www.xlr8yourmac.com and look at the drive compatibility database. i've had problems in my mac trying to boot the os x install cd. in fact I get stuck with the same message. the installer is very picky and only supports certain models of drives. if I change the drive to something like a samsung sw-232 which is supported os x boots and installs just fine.

vmware only show 640kb system memory

mem9im.th.jpg

that's ok, system memory should be 640ko! But since the good old DOS day you shoudn't even care about it :)

I just tried it on a Dell GX280 (Pentium4 530 [3.0 GHz], 1 GB RAM, 160 GB SATA HD) and the DVD booted and got to a blue screen with a spinning multi-colored circle. I left it there for a few minutes, but nothing else happened, so I rebooted. I am not that familiar with OSX, so I am not exactly sure what is supposed to happen next, or exactly where the hang up was.

I booted it onto a Dell PowerEdge 420 & got to the blue-screen-of-spinny-ball-of-death--haven't gotten any further after hours of sitting there. I believe it is because it does not like the graphics card in my case. I will try later on this evening w/ an ATI radeon & let you know what happens. :-)

Any reason dmg2iso is giving me:

partition 1....ERROR:  Inflation failed

I get that when trying to convert the dmg to iso.

It doesn't support compressed DMG's AFAIK, use UltraISO instead. I tried dmg2iso as well and got the same error.

You can "kind of" boot off the CD, if you have a spare hard drive with Darwin on it, when it gets to the boot loader type:

mach_kernel rd=disk#

replace the # with the disk number (boot darwin with CD and type ls /dev to find out)

You can also get a quick cursor glimps if you have OSX x86 installed, mount it, chroot to it and type the following:

/System/Library/Frameworks/ApplicationServices.framework/Frameworks/CoreGraphics.framework/Resources/WindowServer

That was pulled from WindowServer.plist.

Damn..

"This hardware configuration is not supported by Darwin".

God hopes Apple does NOT use the SSE 2 or 3 for Mac OS X.

If you have a Mac, put a blank hard drive in (atleast 20GB), install using that. It just won't boot on an X86 machine, so if you install Darwin onto another hard drive, you can chroot in and do stuff :).

hmmm, my earlier plans to try and thwart the gui were thwarted--the installer didn't like the poweredge 400, which is an Intel 875G chipset whereas the 420 has an E7221 chipset... actually, it appears that this P4 3ghz doesn't have sse3--duh. should've checked first.

Don't have a mac.  :)  I have an iPod though. :P

Any reason why when I run the iso through pearpc it returns kernel panic?

Edit:

I'm not sure why it happens, but I just started trying random builds until it worked. For me, the Athlon XP and P4 optimized builds from http://richardgoodwin.com/wp/cvsbuilds.php were the only ones that booted right; the Altivec and SDL builds all crashed.

Good luck...

does anyone know what this dummy.dmg file in the root of the phenix iso is? i tried to mount it with mac os x and it has no recognizable filesystems according to osx. the file size is almost 1.4gb its about 800megs compressed with sitx. if you open it with a hex editor, you can see filenames and such...

edit: correctly spelled "of"

Dummy files are generally large files comprised mostly of repeating text, just to occupy space. This is why they compress well. The only reason to use them is to start writing real data to a cd later in the burning process to ensure everything is written correctly and can be read by nearly all dvd drives. Since you see filenames in a hex editor, I guess it's probably just a bunch of large files that phenix zipped up and changed the extension on. Try opening it in winrar or something
