iATKOS v1.0i Released

REVENGE

According to the osx86.turk team's official IRC channel on irc.atlantis-irc.net and uphuck.com, their release of Mac OS X 10.5.1 (Build 9B18), codename iATKOS, has been seeded to a "mini" torrent site as of 12-17-2007. iATKOS is considered by osx86/hackintosh community to be the holy grail of "white box PC" Leopard releases. Under development since the time of Leopard's finalization, the iATKOS project has undergone several tentative release announcements, followed by bug fixes, feature additions, and consequent delays and postponement. This finalized v1.0i release will incorporate the monumental PC-EFI boot loader system, a fully patched 10.5.1 installation, and additional community made content. These components may provide for the first time, a consummate white box Leopard experience, with full support for certain combinations of hardware, and the ability to use the vanilla kernel and official Apple updates on Intel Core 2 systems. PPC code has also been removed, so the entire file is smaller in size. The uphuck team itself has recently gained both respect and notoriety from their well developed and supported releases of Tiger, so there is a lot to be expected from their Leopard release.

LIVE: Seeding is now complete. The md5 of the iso file is:166c9e104115ac7e6d6ee0a634b91471

Has April Fools Day arrived early?

Sorry, couldn't resist. Either 'uphuck' is going to be one of the most revered folks in the community, or one of the most reviled if this is actually a fake release publicity stunt.

edit: and on queue (I love tempting fate) the torrent has just broached 1.3 copies available. ;)

edit2: and they've dropped off again - bye bye availability.

anyone notice the screenshot on uphuck.com says its Darwin 9.0.0? As in 10.5.0 kernel? Does this not have a 10.5.1 kernel?

That screenshot is of 10.5, not 10.5.1 hence the 10.5 kernel - 10.5.1 is Build 9B18.

Now what's wrong with having a dinosaur?

My laptop is over 3 years old but still working like mint (except for the fact that i can't burn CDs anymore :P).

Not everyone has 300 euros to spare for a new computer T-T

And yesterday i just got an Athlon XP 2200+ (1.8GHz), 256 MB RAM, 30GB Maxtor, 32MB shared VGA (w00t!) for free. The department was saying that it's a piece of junk and it doens't boot. I took it home and 20 mins later it was bootable. With a new nice clean XP install the little ancient puppy works faster than my friend's core 2 duo laptop with a 1GB RAM.

No, i'm not saying that i'm good or anything. I just want more ppl to appreciate retro-computing :(

And donate some money so I could get a real Macbook Pro, lol :(

Just before the release there was a discussion on the irc channel . Public or a private torrent site, since almost everyone you meet is begging for a brokenstones invite, which means no access for mass majority, they decided to put it up on a public torrent place. Now you know why. Some have reported seeing iATKOS on broken stones, but it was deemed as fake by eskurza. I hope this will shed some light on the situation.

I highly doubt that. I went to sleep for 10 hours and it only got 5 percent more.

It's running at ~0.5% per hour at present.. that's roughly 5 more days to complete. Ironically the very thing this whole drip feed thing is supposed to prevent is going to happen anyway, care of the glacial seeding rate.

Wait 5 days for a torrent to finish, or wait roughly just as long for a good set of seeders to appear. Yep.

I wouldn't dare bash the work that has gone into producing this ISO, but this has got to be one of the slowest torrents ever seeded.

The ISO should really have been sent out or dumped on an FTP/Usenet prior to the actual seeding.

Public or a private torrent site, since almost everyone you meet is begging for a brokenstones invite, which means no access for mass majority, they decided to put it up on a public torrent place.

Public trackers can run just as fast if you have a good bunch of seeders. The massive speeds one can get downloading a bunch of different Linux Distro's is proof of that.

The problem isn't that it's a public tracker. It's that it's being seeded sequentially (i.e. from piece 0 to 1069). By doing so it robs the torrent of virtually all performance. Folks seldom do this for that very reason.

And on that note I will simply wait for the end result. The release sounds brilliant. At least it will once I get it. ;)

OK *please* try to limit the torrent chatter, it doesn't belong here, but in the comments of the relevant torrent on the relevant site.

Here we discuss the release, not how to get it etc.

That means: DON'T post how fast it's coming, how many seeds, what you think of the distribution method nor "post it to usenet" "put it on the bay" "rapidshare it" etc etc etc. these are *all* junk posts.

And to the idiot who posted the entire IP & whois of the seeder: don't do that either, it's beyond stupid.

oh & P.S. a lot of what is being said here about about the way torrents work in general is simply wrong.

please stay on topic.

Thanks Hagar for the updates, I never know we had THIS many choices. : )

Anyone know anywhere can get more detailed tech links (if existed). I got a bunch of wiredest hardware here, need to learn more before give a try.

LOL, yeah I was already laughing when you posted it and after 5 minutes this topic had 5 new posts all concerning the speed of the torrent and the way it should be seeded. :)

just let me get something straight...i read about efi, use of original apple kernel, toh rc2 leopard etc...now with iATKOS v1.0i: i have an intel "core duo" processor in my laptop, note: NOT a "core 2 duo", just a "core duo"...my question: am i able to use apples original kernel? if so, am i able to update leopard within the mac os x without the fear of a bootfail after the update or something like that?

i read that only core 2 duo cpus can use the efi emulation with original kernel and easy systemupdates...why not the core duo since it also has sse3...i can't see the connection between the 64bit core 2 duo and the original apple kernel...leopard also runs on core duo apple machines like the mini or the macbook/pro first generation...or am i totally wrong??

by the way: what is the big difference in iATKOS v1.0i release in comparision to, let's say, toh rc2? that the original kernel, 10.5.1 etc is included?

thanks for any help
