Hacked OSx86 Updated to 10.4.3

Swad

We've received reports that the rather creative OSx86 hacking community has created another release, this time to update existing 10.4.1 installations to many of the new features introduced in 10.4.3. Sources indicate that the new security features implemented in 10.4.3 have prevented a full release and that this update is in lieu of that release.

Check out the front page for the full story.

To add fuel or confusion to the fire, I can't get Flash to work correctly in Safari, but it does seem to work correctly in Shiira 1.1 (a Universal Binary). I haven't the foggiest what that implies, but perhaps anyone else having strange graphical anomalies in Safari under the 10.4.3 'update' could try Shiira to see if it will work natively.

results in background are with 10.4.3 user-land, foreground is before the update. comparison2qx.th.jpg

cpu test went from 19.00 to 67.22!!

also when using 1024x768 resolution i now get 67.72 overall. 10247id.th.jpg

It seems like the CPU speed went up, but a number of things, e.g Quartz, seemed to go down by small amounts. Is it noticeable at all, or simply the same as before?

Installed fine, although after rebooting my notebook cpu maxed out. Rebooted again and cpu was back to normal levels. So far everything seems to be working ok (SSE2), no great gains on xbench for me.... but what makes this release great for me is: -

1. Quicktime including iTunes videos (and Front Row video)

2. CPU and fan don't seem to be going crazy anymore (much more quite)

3. Notebook display can now go to sleep and then wake up again (nice!)

Apart from that everything seems to be as stable as before (very). All apps I've tried so far are working (including mail and preview)

Nice release.

Regarding Flash:

Please post whether you are using an SSE2 or SSE3 CPU, patches you've applied, browsers with/without flash working, whether its on all sites or not.

Maybe something like this:

CPU: SSE2 (Intel Pentium M)

OS VER: 10.4.1 (deadmoo image)

PATCHES: 10.4.3 User-Land

SAFARI 2.0.2: Flash black hole on all sites right click menu shos but "settings" will not come up.

TERM/CONSOLE OUTPUT: N/A

ALSO BROKEN: .Mac will fill the startup drive upon any sync bringing the system to its knees.

I think people care more about function over benchmark results.

We'll start others for other apps to get down to the bottom of this.

EDIT: Added more detail like johnsmith1882 has.

The other benchmark differences are negligable. I can run xbench again and the results may vary by a few points. There is more of a "snappier" feeling when opening folders with a large amount of files but the leap was not as great as going from vesa drivers to a mobo with GMA900.

Capital Idea!

CPU: SSE3 (Celeron 330J)

OS VER: 10.4.1 (native install via VMWare)

PATCHES: 10.4.3 User-Land

SAFARI 2.0.2: Flash black hole on all sites; right clicking produces Flash menu, but no output appears

SHIIRA 1.1 (Native): Flash works

CPU: SSE2 (p4 intel 865E chipset)

OS VER: 10.4.1 (generic dvd install with maxxus that I 'upgraded' to 0.5c)

PATCHES: '10.4.3 update'

SAFARI 2.0.2: Flash works great! Rockin!! All sites so far including dominoes.ca/store

DEER PARK alpha 2 (power pc): Flash works but it's slow under Rosetta on my machine

OPERA 9.0 beta (unibin): Crash when trying to connect to a page with flash (I only tried macromedia.com and macromedia.com/flash). Under Rosetta emu it runs but slower of course. I'm not sure if it crashed like that before on flash sites or not (it did bomb every once in a while)

TextEdit, iTunes, iPhoto all fine and haven't noticed any draw backs. To all the people that put time and effort and smarts into this update, THANKS and this bud is for you. CHEERS!

xBench total went from 34 to 44 cpu score from 16 to 52!

EDIT: attached txt's didn't realize how stupid long my post was.

10.4.1oct30.txt

10.4.3oct31.txt

CPU: SSE2 (Pentium M 1.1 GHz, Centrino 852/855 GM/GME, 1 GB RAM)

OS VER: 10.4.1 (deadmoo)

PATCHES: maxxuss. 10.4.3 User-land

SAFAR: Flash 8 works.

DEER PARK (Firefox universal binary): Flash 8 does not work (black hole)

Mail, Preview, iTunes, iPhoto, ect... apps work fine!

The 10.4.3 User-land installer hung on me after hitting the 100% copied mark... I ended up restarting and repairing permissions and the update worked anyway. I tried the update again and it hung again the same way with an additonal "low disk space warning" dailog (with 31 GB free?). Weird!

Xbench before: 28.92

Xbench after: 42.18

Wow :D Thanks for all the hard work guys.

What make and model is your laptop?

Also, has the battery life improved?

mhh i'm not sure if the path here is a sse3 cpu or the patched maxxus 10.4.2 kernel failing to install.

for people with problems did you have maxxus 10.4.2 patch installed before using this 10.4.3 update ?

i assume that you repaired permissions after installing the 10.4.3 patch

ok... why on earth is this not working for me?!! At least everyone here got their files updated, I installed mine

fine, but when i reboot back, it was like nothing has updated, everything is still the same (after i had repaired

permissions too) I restored my disc to a bigger partition and install from there since the orginal 6GB is not

enough, is this why it is not working?! :D

well hopefully u didnt install on another partition other than your start up disk..

Cause I remember it gave me an option to install on my other HFS partition as well..

Obviously It has to be in start up disk.. Its not windows guys. :D

BTW you can increase your 6GB partition by using many diffrent methods.. Explained in the forum millions of times..
