10.5.3 Available as an update!

Oh good to know! Unfortunally, my pc isn't using vanilla kernel.

So how would I go about telling which kernel I'm running? I used the Kalyway 10.5.2 disc, but it's been over a month and I can't for the life of me remember which I used. Plus I installed that NVInstaller thing that was supposed to fix vid card sleep . . .

 

Maybe I'll just wait until there's a 10.5.3 disc and reinstall. Need to do that soon anyway.

No offense to netkas, but I can barely understand his guides - I'm not going to risk it.

I just want to report that I successfully updated my T60 from 10.5.2 to 10.5.3, following Netkas' method. This is the same method that applied to updating to 10.5.2. You can find it on his website.

 

Had to re-apply the mod to ATIRadeonX1000.kext's contents and I had to restore my old IO80211Family.kext to get the wireless back up.

 

I can;t find the Time Machine option to backup when on battery though?

 

Anyway, System Profiler shows I'm up-to-date:

 

 

edit: I had to restore my powermanagement.bundle for Leopard to detect I'm on a laptop, and the new Tiome Machine feature is there now.

You probably forgot to remove AppleIntelCPUPowerManagement.kext as soon as it was created. It rebuilt the kextcache, loading the installed kext, and crashed your system. Perhaps you can try to recover by booting with -s, follow the instructions for mounting your hard drive as read/write, then type:

 

rm -R /System/Library/Extensions/AppleIntelCPUPowerManagement.kext
rm -rf /System/Library/Extensions.mkext
rm -R /System/InstallAtStartup
reboot now

 

I can't garatuee that this will work, though.

it's work for my, just I'd follow the netkas 10.5.2's guide, netkas your rocks!! (sorry my bad english ), and restored the appleSMBIOSkext from 10.5.2, thanks macdotnub and the appleHDA.kext

Ohh thanks i totally forgot to do this ! Before posting here, i tried to boot my hack in single user mode and there was indeed a problem with this kext. I hope the KP during the update did not break my system. I'll try tomorrow when i get home.

I will extrapolate here on some of were my problems are in the guide. I have highlighted in Red And Bold where my misunderstanding is.

I know for a fact that I would like a more descriptive tutorial. Other than that the tutorial is great, and the feedback on it looks good too.

For people with QE/CI problem and giving a futile retry with NVInstaller.41:

 

You have to use Pacifist to force replace those kexts and framework. Apparently, NVinstaller does not force delete the newest versions of kexts and framework and replace them with old ones. In pacifist, authorize yourself, then when asked, apply replace to all (choose the dont ask ask again for this installation option from the pop up window). Everything will work fine and dandy now.

This update disabled QE/CI for me. Fix below:

Update: I installed the NATIT_gfnvidia (attached) package off of the Kalyway DVD to get QE/CI back on both monitors. I got rid of NVinject completely.

 

1-Try removing NVinject by going to terminal and typing:

-->sudo rm -rf /System/Library/Extensions/NVinject.kext

2-And then installing this package (Natit Installer) reboot. If you have QE/CI back then you are done. If not try this method: http://forum.insanelymac.com/index.php?sho...mp;#entry761801

 

This method worked for me. Backup/Replace AppleSMBIOS.kext with the one you had that was working before. Specs are in signature. Screen shot:

The purpose of that script is to monitor the folder for you, and as soon as it 'sees' the file in question, it will remove it. I'm going into the complete working of all of the parameters of the script.

 

Note that on your Pentium 4, this guide will probably not work. Please wait for other P4 users to come up with a guide for you.

What you'll probably need to do, is use Pacifist to remove System.kext and mach_kernel from the install package, and then run it (using the guide below). Can't promise anything though!

 

 

For Core2Duo users:

 

0. Always backup your /System/Library/Extensions folder first.

 

1. Download the 10.5.3 Combo Update from the Apple website

 

2. run Terminal and type:

sudo su

then type your password

then paste

while sleep 1; do rm -rf /System/Library/Extensions/AppleIntelCPUPowerManagement.kext; done

and hit enter

(nothing seems to happen but it is now monitoring your Extensions folder for the AppleInterCPUPowerManagement.kext file (folder))

 

You can, for safety, open a Finder window in the folder /System/Library/Extensions and look for that file (sort by filename of course), and you willl see it'll be removed automatically within a few seconds after it's created in step 3.

 

3. Run the MacOSXUpd10.5.3.pkg file in the MacOSXUpd10.5.3.dmg you just downloaded, and follow the instructions, but do not reboot at the end.

 

4. When the installation finishes, do not press reboot. Go back to your terminal window and hit ctrl+c. This will stop the script from running. In my case, there was some kind of error, but that's okay.

 

5. type

nano /System/InstallAtStartup/scripts/1

 

A very simple text editor within Terminal will appear. Note you can't use your mouse to click to a certain line/point. 'Walk down' using your arrow keys to the line that contains

"/System/Library/Extensions/Dont Steal Mac OS X.kext"

In this line, replace

Dont Steal Mac OS X.kext

with

dsmos.kext

 

Now hit ctrl+o, enter, ctrl+x (this first saves the file, confirms it, then closes the editor).

 

Type

exit

and close Terminal.

 

6. Return to the installer window and click reboot. If you need to restore some kexts, you can do that before or after rebooting, doesn't really matter. I recommend doing it after rebooting, to see which things still work (so you have the latest drivers for those).

 

It will reboot, right up until the point that the screen would usually turn blue, then reboot again, and all should be well. I guess it has to reboot twice to execute the commands within the /System/InstallAtStartup/scripts/1 file we just edited, and has to reboot again after that.

 

Hope this clears it up a little.

f: if you have a P4 processor you are not using the vanilla kernel, so you have to wait for a hacked kernel and cannot use this process.

It´s kind of cool you guys having troubles understanding us non English speakers this is something we experience all the time. And the really funny thing is it´s pretty much only cause of all the TV shows, movies, lyrics from songs etc. you´ve been bombarding us with throughout the years and ofcourse our schools teaching us english and lately the internet that we can have this conversation at all. Payback time looks like the English language is up for an adjustment towards how the international community needs it to function. Yeah it´s a pain in the but having to be able to understand and write in multiple languages, welcome to our reality .
