BELRpR
Hi, After trying to install mac os on my old pc. I am ready to go to the next level. What do you guys think is the best hardware today to run OSX on. Only requirement is 6 sata ports on the motherboard and PC-EFI working so I can update without any problems. Of courses the motherboard should be completely supported (Sleep/reboot/usb/sata/ide/firewire/...) Thanks for any help. S.SubZero
I recommend *this* site for the best compatible hardware. Seriously, I don't think 100% perfect functionality is possible. We learned with 10.5.2 that EFI was not the safety blanket we thought it was, and even the 'best' 10.5.1's were totally wrecked by using Software Update. You're especially not going to get 'motherboard should be completely supported' on a vanilla kernel. Close, but not complete. Most people gave up on Sleep a while back. audit13
I agree that EFI is nice but not perfect. Installing the Leopard graphics and time machine updates on my laptop with gma950 and desktop with nVidia 7300gs via software update damaged both installations. sdelano
I can personally recommend the DFI Infinity P965-S. Yes it is a slightly older chipset (P965), but it is still a great motherboard. I just picked one up a few weeks ago and everything works great on it. The only special kext I needed was a sound kext (HDAPatcher by Taruga). Everything else that I have tried works super. I haven't tried firewire or sleep yet however. Its relatively cheap too. I got one for $74 shipped from motherboardpro.com but it has gone up about $10 since. Im not sure if this mobo works with the new Penryn processors (E8400 etc) due to the 1066FSB, but you should be able to crank it up and maybe there is a beta bios floating around that will work. Good luck, sdelano Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/96171-best-hardware-to-run-osx-on-pc-with-efi/#findComment-688594 Share on other sites
mac_cute
If you still want to do this,I know that the mobo ASUS P5W DH DELUXE works fine (Wifi,USB,Firewire, and even analog/digital audio on the ALC882).I have heard that the C2D 6750 got the score 215 on the Xbench...But,is not a real Mac Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/96171-best-hardware-to-run-osx-on-pc-with-efi/#findComment-688738 Share on other sites
eeguk
I have one DFI Infinity P965-S. I can not install 10.5.1 because of a "Still looking for root device" error when using ide dvd and sata hd. Can you help me out? thanks I can personally recommend the DFI Infinity P965-S. Yes it is a slightly older chipset (P965), but it is still a great motherboard.
