10.5.2 installed - ERROR LOADING OPERATING SYSTEM

Hey guys..

Boot DVD:

ver. 10.5.2

rev.2 EFI

AMD

Computer:

AMD Athlon 64 X2 4000+

Gigabyte motherboard

What I've managed to do:

- boot from a 10.5.2 dvd

- format the hard drive (Mac OS Extended - journaled)

- install the system (got Install succeeded)

What's the problem:

- when I let it restart, I get an "ERROR LOADING OPERATING SYSTEM" just after the DETECTING IDE DRIVES screen

If I let it boot from a DVD it simply starts the installation process again.

If I let it boot from a hard drive I get that error message.

Some people suggested to change from IDE to AHCI?

Others mentioned MBR and GUID loaders, but I don't quite know what to do with that.

I can see both MBR and GUID loader options during the installation (customize), but both have a 0 kb size written next to them.

Also, I can see 2 kernel options with some notes it's for an SSE3 proc. only, which mine is.

Can anyone please tell me what I can do or try to complete the installation?

Thank you!

Sounds like you don't have a bootloader. That message is from your systems BIOS.

You must specify a loader during the install, otherwise your computer can't boot up to that install.

If you formated the HD with GUID, specify the GUID loader, if you formatted MBR, specify the MBR loader.

When I go to Customize, prior to installing, ond the bottom of the options list I can se the checkboxes for MBR or GUID loader, but next to them it just says their size is 0 kb.

I formatted the HD using the Utilities -> Disc Utility -> Erase (7-pass zeros), is that GUID or MBR?

Checked my BIOS, no IDE/AHCI option.

Also, no Startup Disc in the Utilities menu, only the DVD.

In Disk Utility, if you don't know or care what you formatted as, after it formats, check here..

You MUST check a loader, no matter what symptoms the installer shows. Just check one that matches what you formatted as.

PS: Erasing 7 times is very overkill, just do the standard HFS+ Journalized erasure.
