kernel tom
Hey all, first off let me say that I have been having trouble getting the Disk Utility to work correctly during the installation procedure. The Disk Utility can not erase my partition correctly, and it does not rename it either. However, when I boot back into Linux, it comes up as hfs+ but the OS X86 installer still can not find my partition for installation. It seems that the Disk Utility is not doing its job. Here are the specs: OS X86 version: Mac OS X 10.4.8 [JaS AMD-Intel-SSE2-SSE3 with PPF1 & PPF2] Partition is currently: 40gb FAT32 other partitons: 1) Xubuntu 7.10 2&5) Swap 3) Windows XP Pro SP2 Should I just use a different OS X86 installer? Is this a common issue? Oh and repartitioning the drive is not an option, but any other ideas are welcome. Thank you, tom Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/95638-install-problems-for-jas-1048/ Share on other sites
imvpro
Hey all, first off let me say that I have been having trouble getting the Disk Utility to work correctly during the installation procedure. The Disk Utility can not erase my partition correctly, and it does not rename it either. I also have the same problem, when I click "erase" it never changes the name of the partition. When I close Disk Utility no harddrive icon comes up in the selection screen. imvpro
Tom I got it too work, sort of. Before I had a harddrive with 3 partitions, windows, storage, and a FAT32 i made for Mac OS X, i could never get disk utility to work. So I grabbed a 20gb harddrive and used that, worked out fine. But after i rebooted to log into mac for the first time , it gets stuck at the main white screen with the apple and the loader thing at the bottom, after about 2 minutes it says i need to restart my computer, as of right now im stuck. kernel tom
yeah i finally got it to install as well I used a linux live CD and used cfdisk so set up partition type "AF" but yeah, booting is a probem I read somewhere on these forums that the JaS 10.4.8 disk utility does not create the bootable partition correctly, and the suggestion was to use the 10.4.6 disk utility to format the drive only, then just reboot with 10.4.8 install CD and the drive should show up already partioned correctly. maybe that'll work for you to (currently in the process of getting the iso for 10.4.6) kt Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/95638-install-problems-for-jas-1048/#findComment-684297 Share on other sites

imvpro
i have same problem, have you come across a solution yet? Hey, If you installed video drivers during the main installation of OS X I bet that is your problem... If you know how to manually remove them in single user mode (-s) you can do that, if not reinstall and don't select video drivers Good luck Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/95638-install-problems-for-jas-1048/#findComment-691124 Share on other sites

imvpro
Yes it is possible... depending on what card you have. Go to the Drivers section of these forums and click on Graphics cards. Look for a thread that could possibly comply with your card and read it carefully to make sure it will work on your system configuration. I tried 3 different video drivers and everytime I had to reinstall OS X... I never did get it to work on my system with video drivers for my 8800GTS 640mb. I've decided to stick with windows until someone makes a driver for JaS 10.4.8 that will work with my video card Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/95638-install-problems-for-jas-1048/#findComment-691962 Share on other sites
