i was browsing through the official ie7 public beta2 tour page today, and to my surprise, i fond this

Big Monitor picture

the picture named as "big monitor" looks like a black apple cinema display without the apple logo. makes me wonder if its just a coincidence or should we expect something out of this.

I agree, that looks like an iMac gone over to the Dark Side. :P

Remember that Microsoft ad department has great proficiency with Photoshop. That would be my #1 guess.

My #2 guess would be that there IS a copycat monitor, perhaps made by the company that OEMs the iMac LCD panels to Apple, that uses a black bezel and black stand in the exact style of the Apple original.

I have no idea what can be sued for infringement and what can't as far as product design goes. If I were Apple, it seems a better thing to go after than our OSx86 blogging here, but that's IMHO.

Wide-format monitors have been on the market for PCs for a while now. As soon as HD made inroads into homes, the LCD monitors followed. The PNP spec for monitors is flexible enough to indicate aspect ratios like 1600x768 or whatever it works out to be with the 16:9 aspect ratio of wide screen.

I think even AGP graphics cards can cope with widescreen monitors, but preferably those with DVI output connectors.
