AC97 Intel ICH4 soundcard issue

Greetings,

 

It seems a few people have tried to get this Soundmax AC97 card to work with out much success. It is the classic all kexts load and volume slider works, but no sound. After giving up for awhile, I have realized that it actually does produce sound out of the headphone jack for a split second at a time, with about 2 minutes of time needed between sound blurps. I am clueless , is it an IRQ problem? I have no idea how to check this out, any ideas?
