TheGoog
Has anyone gotten 10.4.4 working properly on a machine with a SSE3 supporting AMD64 cpu and nForce4 chipset? I keep getting different errors when booting. Befuddles me. Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/9310-1044-on-amd64/ Share on other sites
vaderd
Hi! Got it working natively and it runs great except an error with iTunes (6.0.3). Followed the guide maxxuss posted on his site step-by-step from a 10.4.3 installation. I used VMWare with my physical disc to do the actual install, but I guess it would have worked otherwise. Installed 10.4.4 to a new partition, cloned that one afterwards and replaced my 10.4.3 so it's gone forever! Skype works! Sorry, drifted off a little. What errors do you get? Had a panic before I replaced the AppleSMBIOS file, which is also mentioned by maxxuss. After that it worked fine under VMWare and native! TheGoog
The error I get is something like com.apple.nibindd: exited abnormally: Segmentation fault. and the it repeats that over and over again without end. And after replacing the Apple SMBIOS file, I still cant boot into VMWARE either, it just wont see the OS. Can either of you you tell me which mach_kernel you're using? Also, what else could be casung this problem? Thanks again Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/9310-1044-on-amd64/#findComment-58687 Share on other sites
vaderd
At first I used the kernel from maxxuss' amd_enabler, now the prepatched mach_kernel.all_amd. Don't know if it was even updated though. Do you have stable (real stable! like tested with prime etc.!) System under Windows, Linux? May also be a problem with overclocking or overheating. Just a thought. Can't help you any further with your errors, as I've never came across em. TheGoog
Yeah, my system is extremely stable, and I made a decision to not OC this boc (although this venice 3000+ is supposed to be a pretty good overclocker) myabe I'll just wait till a more complete way of installing is around, or just stick with 10.4.3 until I have a reason to upgrade. Also, is there any word on wether the new 10.4.4 or 10.4.5 ATi drivers offer better support for x800 PCIe cards? a8ne
The error I get is something like com.apple.nibindd: exited abnormally: Segmentation fault. I've got the com.apple.nibindd thing too. It crashes when it tries to run loginwindow.app. I'm using the prepatched AMD kernel. a8ne
I've got the com.apple.nibindd thing too. It crashes when it tries to run loginwindow.app. I'm using the prepatched AMD kernel. Nevermind. If you get this error it's because you screwed something up with the AMD Enabler patcher or didn't run it at all. Make sure you follow Maxxuss' instructions for the patcher perfectly in single user mode. My problem is I can't read my own handwriting! 10.4.4 up and running with Winchester 3200+ (SSE2). temis
I have AMD 64 x2 4400+ and I din't understand why 10.4.4 does not detect SSE3 capability at boot or in system profile IU tried a custom kernel without the sse2 / sse3 emulator but since 10.4.4 does not detect sse3 this custon kernel refused to boot it only booted with the sse2 / sse3 patch appliued or the prepatched AMD kernel Anyoine has an idea ? TheGoog
Yup, must've just been an error while typing out commands. Now I'm 10.4.4 with full support for everything but my x800 XL PCIe. gohan
i have 10.4.4 running on a opteron 170 with msi k8n neo4 by following maxxuss's instructions. just used the base and amd patch from his site. 10.4.4 seems to run smoother than 10.4.3 when it is not stuttering. my install is very jerky. i guess i need to look into the CHUD thingy a bit more. gohan
@careless first thanks for your info at the other post about the issue. i actually tried all the combination of ACPI and X86PC IDLEHALT=0, nothing improved the stuttering. i did notice that on my machine that ACPI seems to run a bit faster. anymore ideas?
