lennyb
Try booting with the Install DVD in the drive. If that doesn't work, try booting with the install DVD, pressing F8 and entering rd=disk1s1 on the command line. If that doesn't work there may be something wrong with your installation. Skyper
You must format your HD using MBR instead of GUID.Try using MBR and it will work.

OSx86-AMD-Paul
use disk utility from DVD, select hdd that u are going to install on to, Click erase. once erased, click on partition, and add 1 partition, before confirming adding 1 partition, select options, and make sure mbr bootloader is selected. Now do full install, and in customize options, make sure u only select mbr boatloader. should install, and then be bootable. ...

Also does this mean that it will show up in my mbr now? Because I have leopard on another patition as wellgahh I still don't see it on my mbr!!!!!!!what am I possibly doing wrong? Ive done it atleast 10 tss but it won't show up anywhereIs there anything else i can try? Nothing is working. When my pc boots up, it boots into the windows boot manager and i see Windows vista and Mac OS X(from the 7gb partition i made on this drive) and nothing else. WHy can't i get it to show up? When i'm on the leopard partition i made, i can see the drive with all the files and leopard stuff. But i cant get it to load. Why not?
OSx86-AMD-Paul
have you edited windows bootloader using neo soft boot pro? does your botherboard support usb boot devices? in your bios, it should say if it supports usb boot devices. in answer to F8 key, technicall yes. each manufacturer uses a different key, but theoretically, should work the same. once u have installed leo on your ext hdd, press key to allow boot from usb hdd, and darwin bootlader on the ext hdd should then start loading osx86 or @ least thats what mine does using the setup and partition types u have used. so f8 for me allows:usb - grub boatloader for linux minthdd1 - windows bootloader for vistahdd2 - darwin bootlaoder for OSx86 Leopard

I agree much easier, and MBR seems to give a lot less problems. I have always used MBR and don't see the point in using GUID at all. I really do wish someone would come out with a way we could select our OS like this

inimicus
Tip: When creating topics, use a more specific title. When users see, "PLEASE HELP MEEE!!!!" it's easy to pass by. If you gave some information in the title of the thread, people who know the solution will be more likely to stop by and help. Which is more likely to get a response? A. "HELP HELP HELP!!!" B. "Blinking underscore at boot, can't load OS" Also, thinking of possible thread titles will help you find other threads relevant to your problem. How many times does the words "blinking underscore" appear on the first 20 pages of this subforum? A. I dunno, I haven't looked. B. A lot. </lesson>

And actually i searched at least 30 times before posting each time. How about you take a look for yourself? I haven't seen a post about a blinking underscore once. Although i did find help elsewhere. I do thank os86 paul though for the help. It turns out that i had to reformat the partition i installed leopard on(main drive) before i could use the one on my external. Booting from the actual device doesn't work but using windows boot manager magically worked the last time i tried. I'm typing from leopard right now. However, after i installed the intell pro/100 ve patch, the internet doesnt work everytime upon startup.
inimicus
Do you have to be a {censored}? Actually, it was only a little friendly harassment. How about you take a look for yourself? Actually, I have. I've had the problem before and found a number of threads that gave me a successful resolution. Sorry if I came across as a {censored}, but that wasn't my intention. I was only teasing. Glad to see you've got it worked out.
