System Specs

HP Pavilion zd7260us

Intel Pentium 4 processor 3.2GHz

80GB (4200RPM) Hard Drive

macosx_10.4.3_8f1111_for_dtk_userdvd

Tried to patch it with Jas 4.2b

Basically I was able to successfully install and use 10.4.1, which worked almost flawlessly, but when I attempted to move up to 10.4.3 it just would't work. I have burned about three dvds and only one of them was able to get to the installation screen where it crashed at 97%. When I tried to reburn this dvd (thinking it was the media) the same thing happened. After that I thought I would try out a new disk image, which is the one I posted above in the specs, but that won't even boot up. I have heard that I should be posting the error messages that I get from using the -v method, but I can't seem to tell what the errors are, there are alot of things that say failed or what not. Lastly I tried to install through VMware but it keeps telling me that there is no disk in the drive (I have tried mounting and just booting from the iso aswell). If anyone can be of any help, maybe just to point me in the right direction that would be awesome. And please let me know if I left out any technical info that you might need to help me.

Have you checked the md5 sums of your image and patch, and most importantly, the patched.iso that you burn to DVD? doing that would let you know if that part is right. I ask because you said "Tried to patch it with Jas 4.2b" Also what kind of DVD are you using for this? -R, +R, -RW, +RW, what? ;)

So even though I attempted not to leave anything out, you caught me. Yes I did check the MD5 Sum and it appears to be correct (16139ae55ac283c114a5231f85c3f54c *macosx_10.4.3_8f1111_for_dtk_userdvd.iso). Also to answer you question I am using DVD+R, is there a difference in stability or compatibility with OS x86? And I do appreciate the quick response! Thanks a bunch.

Those were just my up front questions :dev:

I have no personal experience with laptopsand OSx86, so I can't help much. I couldn't find any detailed tech specs on google for zd7260us... Do you know your chipset info and such? maybe someone else knows more about that issue, but yes there are different compatibilities between 10.4.1 and 10.4.3

Sorry I can't help more

good luck :hysterical:

I assume these aren't detailed enough specs. but it was all I could find right now since I'm kind of busy, but please if there is anyone else out there let me know what I can do to try and fix this. Also why wouldn't it work in VMware?

I just got the full specs using CPU-Z

Intel Pentium 4 3.2 Ghz model 0880

Chipset Northbridge Intel i865P/PE/G/i848P rev. A2

Southbridge Intel 82801EB (ICH5) rev. 02

MMX, SSE2

I have added some to the Wiki, check the Technical FAQ, especially regarding booting to only a blue screen. Laptops apparently need to suck on a pacifier to install 10.4.3, and I found an article from someone who made one, complete with pictures.

That said, there's a lot about 10.4.3 that annoys the jeebers outta me. I have to unplug ALL USB devices, because for some reason the USB devices that are present at boot time get used (at least the storage ones), and all other use of the ports is shut down. Plug or unplug things and it's dead fish.

I also cannot use my PS/2 keyboard if those USB recepticles have a mouse or other peripheral attached (I wanted to keep a Bluetooth dongle plugged in, but its presence upsets the system).

I've been told to remove the AppleFPMemory.kext file (probably lives in /System/Library/Extensions). This has some bearing on USB functionality post-boot, but still leaves me with this persnickety problem of its behavior when booting with USB peripherals installed. Dangit.

The Intel 865 differs from the reference platform, and I am not really sure the current kext files have a provision for talking to that chipset. The CPU and memory are good, and possibly even the sound is usable.

I have an ICH6 and never get sound except sometimes under VMware. Apparently the code is written to like the ICH7 the best. Some people work out sound patches for AC97 audio.
