Hi

everything's running fine, i have 10.5.1 install on it

i want to increase the partition size

i've read zuza's guide

my one problem is that i don't know how to make another partition with which to merge with the hfs partition my mac's on.

a clear list of where to go would be appreciated

i tried doing it in XP, just making a partition (and not formating it obv). the list of volumes people wrote in zuza's thread read:

disk0 type name size id

1 apple_HFS BLAH 123Gi disk0s1

2 apple_HFS bla1 321Gi disk0s2

essentially. anyway, i cant find how to make my "type" of partition the apple_HFS aka mac os journaled

i think that's where my problem lies

people in zuza's thread state they used diskutility then went into the prompt, but i don't see how to partition it correctly without repartitioning/reformating the entire drive

and i went into 'erase' and picked the mac os journaled option, clicked erase, but it doesnt work because the volume's greyed out on the left

help is much much appreciated :D:P

Kinda off topic here, but can I make a suggestion. Everybody go buy one of those cheap three or four packs of usb keys you see these days. Now make one a bootable dos key for flashing the bios and such, make another with SystemRescueCd on it, and make a third a bootable DiskWarrior OS X key with any other apps you want on it (like superduper and such). You can also make a multiboot single key if you want to get fancy. Much faster than booting from those slow CDs. :P

Yes I would agree - it is kinda off topic.

USB bootup is problematic for some of the most useful of utilities. It is not the be-all-and-end-all. The toolbox should include a variety of working solutions -some of which are on CD, some on USB and some even on floppy. Ideally everything would boot off a usb stick - but that's just wishful thinking at the present time.

Also I think it is a bit presumptuous to expect happydays312 to be able to convert a bootable ISO into a bootable USB format if he/she cannot even get beyond the partitioning conundrum.

Yours is a nice suggestion but some utilities present problems - especially those which do not have their own usb conversion tools. eg Memory testers. BartPE is not even reliable even though it does support conversion to usb. It is still a grey world - not black and white.

I see - so he's got this partitioning utility on a boot CD and just when he's about to use it he gets this wonderful suggestion from someone - "you'll find it more convenient if you just transfer that to your usb stick" And three hours later he's wishing he had just stuck the ferkin cd in the ferkin drive.

Thanks everybody  much appreciatedactually, another question!how, or rather what partition program can i use in windows to increase windows' partition size? partition magic can't be run in windows when i have a mac partition it seems. i read somewhere i can 'run it in dos' although i dont know how to do that. thanks :Palthough any method would be helpful. my google skills are lacking these days it seems
