socal swimmer
cough .... mac mini is a lot better? Though i read of others that were bigger, but around 2 - 300? still, a great little pc, and a good way to introduce linux to the public. ~pcwiz
gOs: Nice simple interface. That launcher bar on the bottom looks sorta like a rip of the OS X dock (jk) Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/90435-think-mini/#findComment-645273 Share on other sites
InorganicMatter
Umm...wow, I don't know where to start. How about another $100 for a Mac Mini? Leopard sure beats the pants off gOS. That thing need to be priced like the ASUS eeePC. No more than $199, I'd say. vbetts
I'd throw in more ram, and put osx86 of Vista for media center, and it's set. Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/90435-think-mini/#findComment-646514 Share on other sites
Forceman
Best design award because it's more compact and better than your standard PC, but it dont look half as good as a mini-mac. Kane Adams
This looks like it would be cool to own. AOpen debuted the MiniPC at a press event today The MiniPC will be available initially in two versions. The MP915-C will be powered by an Intel Celeron M 360 processor clocked at 1.4GHz. The MP915-P will be powered by an Intel Pentium M 740 (Dothan) processor clocked at 1.73 GHz. Both models will use Intel's 915 GM chipset, and come with a 512MB DDR2 400 SODIMM memory module running at 533MHz. The MiniPC is roughly the size of a Mac Mini The Celeron-based MiniPC will include a 40GB hard drive, as well as a slot-loading DVD player and CD writer. The Pentium-based model will have an 80GB drive, and adds DVD+/- writing capability. The MiniPC eschews legacy ports Both models include a pair of USB 2.0 host ports, along with an IEEE 1394 (FireWire) port. Both include Gigabit Ethernet ports, while the Pentium-based model comes pre-installed with an 802.11b/g mini-PCI card. Both MiniPC's include DVI (digital video interface) ports, and S-Video. Comparing the MiniPC (top) to the Mac Mini (bottom) (Click each image to enlarge) Availability The A-Open MiniPC will ship this month in the US through TigerDirect, with prices starting at $399, including Linspire's Linspire Linux operating system. A $499 version running Microsoft's Windows XP Home Edition will also be available. The Pentium M versions are likely have street prices in the US of about $200 more. http://www.linuxdevices.com/news/NS8464432110.html Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/90435-think-mini/#findComment-648311 Share on other sites
Synaesthesia
Looks like a good little machine. But a Mac Mini is actually way better value. Yes, it costs more, but you not only get OS X and iLife, you get 1gig RAM and a proper Core 2 Duo, instead of previous generation single core Celeron's and Pentium M's...way better! But ppl will probably buy them, and Apple is too smarmy to ever put out a budget machine like that. vbetts
When you're buying something like the Mac Mini, you're not buying a computer, you're buying the apple name. Critisize apple all you want for charging something like that, but they will service you and make sure you're in good care with your apple. No more than $199 I couldn't agree more Plus the mini can run BOTH Leopard AND windows. The mini however does need an update. If they had a 2.4 Ghz I'd buy one. I'm betting they come out with a new one this June that will be smaller (thinner) like the Air. Synaesthesia
Everyone says the mini is great etc etc etc.I had one, it's not that great. Well then you won't like this. It's almost exactly the same... I think a Mini is a great little pc. Eg. the 1.83ghz or 2.0ghz Core 2 Duo would be much faster than my P4 3.0ghz, and I feel that my P4 is quite fast! Maxintosh
I had one, it's not that great That is only your opinion, which you are entitled to, but please don't state it as if it is a 'fact' because it isn't. For many people the Mac mini is the main reason for switching over to using a Mac. If they weren't great then there wouldn't be so many imitations of them. hot hatch
I have a mini and for what I need (web development, chat, music, office stuff, email) it works great. My job doesn't require a top of the line machine and the mini's plenty fast for what I make it do. Hell, the core 2 duo is way faster than the 2ghz P4 I was using for daily work up until late last year so I'm more than happy. Maxintosh
Maybe I should of said they suck and not they are not that great. Vacuum cleaners suck. Minis are fine for everything except gaming. Korrupted
You can game on a mini, but nothing past like...n64 emulators or world of warcraft on lowest settings. MAME would run decently, though.
