It works fine, the audio will depend on your hardware. Usually only line out works though unfortunately, at best. But for Logic work you will anyway want to buy a proper external USB/Firewire sound card. These will be more compatible.

I can only recommend this if you can't afford a Macbook though.

If you still wanna go ahead, be sure to search around the forums and check the wiki HCL's (hardware compatibility list) first.

I've heard from a few people that hackintosh's have some problems with audio

that s not true

i use my hackintoch everyday with very big projects without any problem

it just work like a real mac

though a laptop ( even a real mac ) isn t the best choice for logic audio

Hi,

Do you think a Pentium 4 @ 3Ghz + 1.5GB RAM (pc3200) will be good enough for Logic?

BTW beleive it or not my VERY old Pentium 4 2Ghz + 512mb RAM handles logic, very very slow though.

By looking at the Minimum System Requirements, I would GUESS so.

I'm with Synaesthesia - Only do it if you can't afford a MacBook.

Thanks.. I am upgrading my RAM, I will post here the results.

If the P4 3Ghz won't handle it, I'll either build a Q6600 + 2 or 4 GB (around 650 USD) or buy a MacBook which I can't afford right now. I actually think that Q6600 + 2GB will handle Logic better then a basic 2.1Ghz/1Gb MacBook (non pro).

good night :)

I have a P4 3Ghz and 3 gig memory works ok about the same as my Mac mini core 2 dual. Be sure to get a Pci Firewirecard with Texas instruments chipset if you have a FW soundcard otherwize you get in troubles with sound dropping out and stuff. I´ve been running lots of audiotracks so a P4 3 Ghz is pretty ok. Good luck

Thank you guys,

It seems that my computer is dead..

My new rig for Logic 8 will be either that or a iMac 2.0Ghz/3GB or a macBook 2.1Ghz/3GB.

I am not sure about the motherboard and video card as I am looking for best compatibillity (any recommendations for motherboard?)

Gigabyte GA-P35-DS 3/4's seem to be well supported and documented on this site. Check out this wiki:

3 guys here said a P4 3 Ghz would do it and I´m one of them, I have one myself and told you it works perfectly ok. So why on earth did you ask in the first place?

That motherboard should work nicely. I have a P35-DS3L and 10.5.1 runs nicely. If you find that you are having trouble with the installation such as: not booting up or install fails. Try a MBR format and install OS X without the vanilla kernel. That's what I did. Not sure if it was the MOBO or what but, if you get any install errors try what I mentioned.

I'm running Logic 8 with regular realtek audio(with the patched HDA kext) and it runs awesome. I have entire songs built up with a bunch of effects and busses/auxes and it barely taxes the CPU. I noticed when I used sculpture and space designer on a track it used a bit more CPU but, it still had loads of CPU to spare. It runs fantastic. I can't imagine how well it would run on a quadcore.
