Missing Operating System after Installation (again:-)

Hey folks, so I have the same problem like many others, tried it in several ways, but it didn't work so far...

From the start:

Got the macosx_10.4.3_8f1111_for_dtk_userdvd prepatched image, then I followed the guide from profit 42, the installation ran just fine, but after rebooting I got the message "Missing Operating System". The partition for OS X was created with diskpart as primary partition, then I set it up in HFS+ (Journaled) with the Disk Utility before installing. I tried the Startup Utility from the DVD (which shows the installed Mac OS Sytem folder correctly) and also tried the chain0 method, both ways didn't work.

My system is a Toshiba Satellite M30x, perhaps I have to change my BIOS settings?!? If you have any opinions, perhaps I could finally boot the new OS.

Thanks in advance, couchtale.

if your osx86 partition is not on thne same disk as xp your have to make it active (use diskpart select disk / partition and simply type : active)

if you need dual boot use this :

in xp add a line to boot.ini at then end : c:\chain0="Mac OSx86"

place chain0 to c:\

reboot

chain0.zip

thanks temis, but I already added the Mac OS to the Win XP bootloader, doesn' work for me, when I choose "OSx86" it just gets me back to the boot screen. OSx86 and Win XP are on the same disk:

and diskpart does only show one partition:

Microsoft DiskPart Version 5.1.3565

Copyright © 1999-2003 Microsoft Corporation.

Auf Computer: SATELLITE

DISKPART> list disk

Datentr. Status Größe Frei Dyn GPT

-------- ---------- ------- ------- --- ---

0 Online 75 GB 0 B (german:))

While the two partitions are correctly shown by the Disk Utility as well as Partition Magic, that I used to shrink my original Windows partition. (capacity of the HD is 75GB, I set up 36 GB for the HFS+ partition where I installed OS X).

I like Acronis a lot too! I find that it works great, and looks a lot nicer than the text boot options. Once or twice after OSx86 installs I have had to boot into XP and reactivate Acronis to make it work again. :thumbsdown_anim:

It's this No Operating System Found problem that makes the guy tell you to get spfdisk on bootable media. Floppy assumedly, but some CD burners can make a bootable CD out of a floppy image.

Basically what you need to do with spfdisk or some other fdisk like program is go in to the partition table of your drive, and activate the partition with the OS you want to boot. Activated partitions without any OS installation will give that error.
