fortissimoplayer
Okay, So I have the Mac OS 10.4.3 x86 DVD and I was able to install it natively on the computer I built in school (SSE3). Because it worked there I ordered a computerto be completly dedicated to osx86 but when I tried to boot the install disc it would load and just the cursor showed up, then it gave a killall and my computer shut off. I tried doing this in safe mode, single user mode, and verbose mode but still no avail. -fort Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/8885-install-hangs/ Share on other sites
jbjonas
Well here are the important specs from your link so maybe we can help... Athlon 64 3500+ 2.2 GHz Socket 939 Chipset = ATI Radeon XPress 200 Motherboard = ASUS A8AE-LE HP/Compaq motherboard name: AmberineM-GL6E 200 GB SATA hard drive Integrated graphics with up to 128 MB allocated video memory (dude, I'm sorry but I really despise HP ) The first thing that concerns me is that your Chipset is ATI. Does that mean that your integrated graphics are ATI as well? That would be good in itself, but so far, I don't think ATI chipsets as a whole are really supported. (someone who knows more about this please correct me if I'm wrong) The only ones I found after a quick search of the wiki were listed for 10.4.1, and said "Sil3112A SATA HDD not detected". http://wiki.osx86project.org/wiki/index.php/HCLPart So maybe the SATA hard drive is holding you back. Try a PATA IDE drive if you have one... Sorry if I'm bringing you bad news. It sounds like you bought this PC just to use it for OSx86. Did you do any investigating into the hardware compatibility of this system before purchase? If so, did you find anything different? Good Luck fort. Edit: I ran across some more information here on another thread. R. Bear Helms
I too am an HP-Compaq hater. They'll put ATI chips on the motherboard but gimp them in such a way the manufacturer's (ATI's) own drivers won't function right with them... sometimes refuse to install altogether. In other cases, I've had a Compaq actually frighten me into believing I had an imminent CRT explosion after telling XP to go iterate itself and use the ATI driver anyway. That was a really bad idea, in retrospect. If your misery loves company, I have a very nice XP box I put together with parts ordered from Newegg. OS X Kernel panics on me - despite using a motherboard someone else seemed to say works really well. I think my problem is they used a Celeron D and I elected to get the Pentium 4 HT with 2mb L2 cache. It has SSE3 and NX, and I can't get past the panic for want of trying to patch or unpatch the mach_kernel.
