jcfreek7
After a little trickeration I finally got 10.4.3 running on my Compaq Presario R4000 laptop. Two things don't work right now though. The Conexant AMC Audio and my Cisco 350 series wireless card. Can anyone point me in the right direction so that I might try to get these things working. The Audio isn't recognized at all right now and the wireless card is recognized by OS X(When I click on the wireless card icon I see my card but it is greyed out) but isn't working. I tried downloading the OS X drivers from the cisco site but they keep crashing on install. I am not on my laptop right now so I can't supply specific information about my system but I will later tonight if that will help. Any help is appreciated. R. Bear Helms
The Wiki has some entries on getting Audio to work, just search for audio. Chances are you'll need to discover the plug-n-pray device ID for the sound card. Wireless however is a problem. Most people are not finding answers. Remember Apple had no intention of making this OS support every freakin' peripheral there exists for PCs, just the ones made for macs including their own products. benny1121
just a small question, Im new to these forums and this is my first post but I also have a compaq presario r4000 series laptop (r4065ea) with ati xpress200m graphics 1gig ram, and an athlon64 3500+ processor, I know this machine should be good enough to run osx but, I just wanted to know, before I go ahead with the installation with a patched version of the x86 version of osx what problems am I likely to get , Ive looked on other posts but so far there isnt much info on my laptop, apparently there is an issue with the ati chipset or something. thanks in advance

As the other poster have written, check the Wiki for how to try to get audio working. Seach for 'audio' and read it. You will need to know you vendor and device ID of your sound hardware. If you can boot into Windows XP it's as easy as using dxdiag. But again read the Wiki. And the wireless, well I don't see it happening in the near future. Try using wired networking instead; much better chance of getting on the net with the Hackintosh.
benny1121
ive booted my compaq presario laptop with the osx86 10.4.3 disc (patched) and im able to set the graphics mode e.t.c. and when it gets to the grey screen with the apple in normal mode about 2 mins after it just has a small cross through the apple. I then tried in diagnostic mode, and as it was loadin up it got to a message saying "still waiting for root device" i understand this is probably an ide controller issue, i also tried switching on my usb drive half way through to see what it would do. here is the message I get on the scenn what could be causing this, also would safe mode sort this issue out? here is a screenshot that I took with my camera,
