My system.

MSI P6N SLI

2 GB DDR 800 memory

Geforce 8800GTS 512mb (g92)

1x 160 gb IDE (Leopard 10.5.2 ToH rc 2)

1x 250 gb SATA (Windows XP)

1x 120 gb SATA

Tested method, should work 100%

Use at your own risk and make sure to backup your files!

Here is the method I used to install the 10.5.2 update. I followed the install method on the first post to set my system up to 10.5.1.

1. Download the Kalyway 10.5.2 update installer (It can be found in the usual places. Then prevents the new kernel from overwriting the Golden Kernel and its kexts (for the most part)

2. Backup your /system/library/extensions folder. Back up all personal files just in case this install does not work

3. Install the Kalyway update. Don't reboot yet, open up your extensions backup folder and move IOHDIXController.kext back into your /system/library/extensions folder (it was overwritten in the install). By Request I have attached mine to the post.

4. Open Terminal. Type "sudo -s" and hit enter. Type your password. Then type "chown -R 0:0 /system/library/extensions" and hit enter. Then type "chmod -R 755 /system/library/extensions.

5. Reboot now. Hit F8 before the bootloader opens and use the -v boot flag so you can see any errors or panics that happen. The system should reboot automatically before the OSX launches. Let it boot up normally.

Congratulations, you are now running 10.5.2 toh rc2 with the golden kernel! Everything should work properly (boot time was even faster for me)

Next on the plate is installing the graphics update. I'll do that when I get a chance and post my results.

so i can update from 10.5.0 to 10.5.2 using this guide?

And will this work on SSE2 systems with no Vanilla?

I would update to 10.5.1 first, just to be safe.

I dont know about SSE2 systems, but this guide doesn't replace the kernel, so you might be ok. I cant say for sure either way.

Well it works for me kinda, when osx starts up, my screen went black for about 2-3 mins before the log in screen would appear, but it works. Anyone know a fix for this prob?

you need a 9.2 kernel to make this problem go away. theres a patched 9.2 kernel in the kalyway kernel pkg that makes the delay do away but you can only use 1 core.

mine doesnt black out but i get the delay after the circle stop spinning, just stuck there for about 4 mins then login.

The golden kernel that I am using can be found at: http://www.mediafire.com/?bmryedvktm9

I'm not getting a delay, in fact, my boot time is twice as fast as it was.

i found the F*cking problem with the hang after the circle spin. its not realated to the kernel.. its realated to the new Graphics kext with the old kernel. i reinstalled and the problem happend after i installed the 10.5.2 graphics update. the system does not hang if you use the new kernel with the new graphics driver. but if you use the old kernel with the new graphics driver its starts to hang. for me aleast.

Well, that guide is for people that have Core 2 Duos and can run Vanilla Kernel.

BTW, will this guide work for 10.5->10.5.1????

Many people said that guide works...

  • 1 month later...

I have a dell dimension 8400. i have a clean install of ToH 10.5.0 RC2 on it.

i used your method here to update to 10.5.2 (cant find a goot tut on how to update to 10.5.1)

when i use -v to see any errors during boot i get this:

Does anyone know what this means, how i can fix it?

Is it because i need to install 10.5.1 first before moving on to 10.5.2? If so, can anyone point me to a working tut for a 10.5.1 update for ToH?

Thank you.
