Soviet Spartan
I can load the Kalyway disk. I choose Vanilla with both options. I choose Nvinject for Nvidia Desktop being that i have a 8800gt. I choose EFI MBR. FORMATTED DRIVE AS MBR. It installs, countdown to zero. I remove the disk. Restart the comp. Grey apple screen flashes for one second. It restarts. I try again with -v. Grey apple screen flashes for one second. It restarts. I've installed it so many times that I feel something seriously must be wrong. Comp Specs: 2gb ram Pent D 820 Intel D945PSN with latest bios PNY XLR8 8800gt IDE DVD AND HARDDISK Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/86306-pentium-d-820-28ghz-and-d945psn-boot-problems/ Share on other sites
Proteo
Hey Soviet, your CPU doesn't support the vanilla kernel, that's why you're having that problem. Only Core family CPUs can use it, so you must uncheck it from the install options. Regards. Soviet Spartan
Crikey, I'm gonna go try that right now . Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/86306-pentium-d-820-28ghz-and-d945psn-boot-problems/#findComment-612747 Share on other sites
drewsipher_X
Sounds like a video problem. Try starting with '-x' Thats for loading in safe mode..and make sure you have all secondary monitors/displays disconnected. That always locks up my bootup.. And as far as the install goes I've had the best success with just installing normally, ie, start the dvd install normally not in safe mode and leave everything else unchecked EXCEPT mbr partion boot. Thats if your booting off of a hd with other os's on it which I do. I think the Guid is ok if your installing all to a separate HD.. Worked for me. Loving the Leopard! Soviet Spartan
I just tried it again but now I don't get the bootloader; I just stayed stuck at one minute left for like 30 minutes. I restarted, reinstalled over the previous, and now I get a flashing cursor _ _ _ and it just stays stuck there. lol argh. ps. The only reason why I want osx is to run Garageband and check for compatibility,. I have a Casio Privia PX-575R. From what I heard though this keyboard may have an issue with OSX not recognizing it. I may end up just buying a legit minimac for this purpose, dont really want to waste a 250 dollar videocard and 22 inch monitor for just garageband . All the time Iv'e wasted so far i could have worked those same hours and bought the damn thing by now lol. Proteo
OK, you got the infamous "blinking cursor" issue. It happens because your partition has not properly set as "active". There are tons of post about this problem, just do a search for it. ted spikes
I have the same board and processor in one of my builds. I had to use the EFI-MBR and I wouldn't check any of the nait injection packs as you have the 8800gt and will need the 10.5.2 kext before you can use it. I patched the sigmatel 9220 from the directions on another post and everything just works for me. I left all the kernel slections as default. good luck Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/86306-pentium-d-820-28ghz-and-d945psn-boot-problems/#findComment-612960 Share on other sites

mtotho
I would never choose the kexts for hardware off the install disk. Install, then go online and look for more specific kexts for your video card.
