  • Case: CoolerMaster Elite RC-331 48 USD
  • PSU: CoolerMaster RS-430-PMAP 40 USD (bought almost 2 years ago)
  • Mobo: GA-945GCM-S2L 52 USD (BIOS: F6b) - 52 USD
  • CPU: Celeron E1200 Dual Core!!! (Overclocked to 2Ghz) - USD 53
  • CPU cooler: Sonic Tower Rev.2 - USD 49
  • Thermal compound: Arctic Silver 5 - USD 13
  • RAM: 2x1GB Kingston 667 Mhz DDR 2 Value RAM - USD 44
  • Optical drive: Samsung S203B DVDRW 20X SATA USD 27
  • Seagate Barracuda(80GB - IDE) - 60 USD (bought almost 2 years ago)

Only one fan spinning here... Ultra silent Coolermaster PSU's fan (blows a lot of air so I don't need an exhaust fan)! Only one more mechanical component: silent Seagate HDD!

I edited the HCL for 10.5.1. Also pasting here:

  • Install method: Kalyway 10.5.1 Install DVD
  • BIOS version F6B, Rev. 1.0
  • Audio requires AZALIA_out.pkg from Kalyway 10.5.1 Install DVD
  • LAN requires driver from: http://www.realtek.com.tw/downloads/downlo...TL8168/RTL8111C
  • SATA and IDE working out of the box
  • Certain applications (i.e. Opera) cause Intel GMA950 glitches

Xbench:

Notes:

  • This was my test setup with my test HDD (Seagate 80GB). Will replace Seagate 80GB with ultra silent Samsung HD501LJ 500GB SATA which I already have and redo an Xbench and edit this post.
  • I know the CPU sucks but I don't like Intel. I would buy an AMD but chose Intel just for Hackintosh so I didn't buy an expensive processor.

This post was prepared on my Hackintosh. ;)

@Macpaq

Using IGP GMA950. Display is Viewsonic VA2216W-2. Resolution is 1680x1050 (native res. of the display). QE & CI enabled. All fine except small glitches when using the Opera browser.

@Colonel

Your comment doesn't make any sense. Many of the hardware we use inside Hackintoshes will never be in a default Mac setup. So what? I "never" paid a CPU more than USD 100 in my life. I don't remember how much I paid for my first IBM compatible PC's CPU (486 DX2-66) though, which I bought after an Atari 800XL, a C64 and an Amiga 500. Maybe that 486 cost more than USD 100.

This computer can do anything a Mac Pro does, just slower because it's a budget build. But it's also a special silent "and" low power using green build unlike a Mac Pro. Yes, I used a real Mac Pro with 4x2.66Ghz cores and 3GB ram so I can compare. If I need CPU power, (only significant difference is 3D rendering - which I don't use) I can build 3 more of these and make a "much" more powerful render farm than a Mac for about USD 1500. Check http://www23.tomshardware.com/cpu_2007.html if you don't believe me.

  • 4 weeks later...

I support Colonel, don't claim"Ultra quiet Mac Pro for USD 386 thanks to Kalyway!, Mobo: GA-945GCM-S2L",if its a Celeron!!!

It like claiming to have a Porsche if you drive a VW Beetle just because the engine is at the back!

"This computer can do anything a Mac Pro does, just slower"

My HP €72.00 notebook does everything a Mac Pro does just slower!

If you want I can modify your About Mac so that is says "Commadore 64" and still do updates!

I think the value to xbench score is great. Here are some some suggestions.

For GMA950, you can improve graphics scores by disabling beamsync and enabling QuartzGL via the terminal (search) Also, if you haven't done it already, first install natit.kext next do the graphics update - then, if you dont get full resolutions, replace the new AppleIntelIntergratedgraphics.kext with version 1.4.20. Your graphics scores will go up.

Your HD scores are low. My HD (WD KS-250) xbenches at about 69. Hopefully your new HD will fix that. Your Xbench score should be about 140-150. Mine is 130 and your CPU and memory scores are higher than mine.
