ritec
Hello everyone, nice community you got going on in here, I've been lurking around for the past 3 days because I am in the process of building a new computer and I would like it to dual boot into XP and OSX - most of you seem to know about this : ) So far I am going with a configuration that is very similar to ~pcwiz config as I am looking for a very quiet rig, as it is for music production purposes. I do need recommendation for a compatible video card that supports at least two monitors and is on the cheaper side as opposed to the expensive. I do not need a fancy graphics card as I do not really game at all. These are the parts I have so far, let me know what you think and what you would change, if anything. case: Antec Sonata III 500 Black 0.8mm cold rolled steel ATX Mid Tower Computer Case 500W Power Supply - Retail chip: Intel Core 2 Quad Q6600 Kentsfield 2.4GHz LGA 775 Quad-Core Processor Model BX80562Q6600 - Retail RAM: CORSAIR 4GB(2 x 2GB) 240-Pin DDR2 SDRAM DDR2 800 (PC2 6400) Dual Channel Kit Desktop Memory Model TWIN2X4096-6400C5 G - Retail HardDrive: HITACHI Deskstar E7K500 HDS725050KLA360 (0A31619) 500GB 7200 RPM SATA 3.0Gb/s Hard Drive - OEM Video Card: Still deciding open to recommendations. aspirina750
I have a similar rig, Q6600 G0, 4gb 800, Seagate 7.11 500gb 32mb cache, Asus P5K-VM (size constraints) and a Asus EN8600GT Silent this GFX is fairly cheap, silent and it works with the 10.5.2 kext. I used a cheap Asus TM210 case, upgraded everything with Noctua fans and an Asus Triton 75 Cooler. The Power Supply is a Nox Pulsar 650W. Anyway, the EN8600GT is a decent card, not too expensive and silent http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx...N82E16814121076 512mb http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx...N82E16814121098 256mb BTW regarding the HD, if you´re looking for performance/price go for the Seagate 7.11 500gb (ST3500320AS) or 750gb 32mb cache with silicon screws. ritec
Thanks for the suggestions! I will check into them, yeah I was loking into the seagate HD but I heard something about clicking sounds and having to upgrade to the 2.0 firmware etc etc. You think it's more stable now? It seemed like a lot of people were having problems with these...
~pcwiz
Yes, my rig performs great and its extremely quiet. I would suggest the Gigabyte GA-P35-DS3P motherboard from my experience, as it has those silent cooling pipes that cool efficiently with no noise. For a sound card, you should decide what fits your needs For a video card, if you don't need gaming performance, get a 7300GT. Those are cheap, support dual monitors, and will give you adequate power for your needs. EDIT: For a hard drive I went with the 250GB Western Digital Caviar SE16, completely quiet, no problems and its available in 500GB and 750GB variations
