drumthrasher109
I give up! Its weird, the first time I followed a tutorial, I got everything working JUST FINE, until I switched the active partitions so I can go back into Windows. Now every time I reformat, and install, I get different stupid errors every time! I don't know why!! Nobody seems to help, so I just give up. I don't wanna give up, because for the 5 minutes I was using Leopard it was great. If you wanna help, please contact me via AIM or MSNM.
MrRoper
I understand your frustration i really do, i struggled with this for about 4-6 weeks before i could get it working, I have posts that were left with no response and others that got good responses that actually helped me. at any rate, if this really is your parting post and your giving up. you should at least post your hardware setup and what you've tried. The install process is not solidified for everyone, and there are so many different hardware config's... its a work in progress. There often times is no "one answer" that works for everyone and there may be multiple ways to achieve your goal hang in there I give up! wigworm
Lots of time a question left unanswered simply because it wasn't asked the right way. A question that most likely get response should have all of the following elements: 1. Your system specs 2. What exactly are you trying to achieve 3. Where you got stuck, and the kind of error message you got "preferably with a screenshot" 4. What have you already done to resolved the issue A typical question that guarantee won't get any response is something looks like the following: Quick, I'm stuck. Need help!!! /the end/
drumthrasher109
Heres my system: I simply want to install OS X on my disk0s1 partition (master HD, 2nd partition), and boot to it whenever I choose along side Vista and XP. I've formatted the HFS+ partition several times, installed it several times, and I got several different errors each time. Now i'm getting a 'Missing Operating System' error, so what i'm experimenting with now is using Grub to see if it will boot into it.

wigworm
You have over written your vista boot mgr while you partition your second partition for OS X. You can recover vista boot by repairing vista using vista installation disk. Now, you probably better off format the second partition in FAT32 for OSX. Then when you boot up with OS X installation dvd, erase that partition in MAC OS Journaled extended. And install. Hope it works.

I can boot into Vista just fine, or else I wouldn't be able to post that screenshot. One time I tried installing Leopard, I formatted the partition as Mac OS Journaled Extended, and it did the same thing as without being journaled, just regular. wigworm
Which leopard distro you are using? Remember you have to first make sure you installed darwin bootloader and second your osx partition need to be flagged as bootable for the bios to boot you OSX. How exactly do I flag it as 'bootable'?
wigworm
I'm using the ToH one. How exactly do I flag it as 'bootable'? The easiest way to do it is to download and burn a Gparted live cd. You may use it for partition and also for flagging bootable. I personally used unix terminal command but I don't have that command handy and don't want you to enter wrong command. You basically boot up your computer with gparted live cd in it and just follow the instruction on screen. Very simple and straight forward. drumthrasher109
I put the gparted Thing on my flash drive, it loaded some gnome thing, but when I tried to go into it, it said it couldn’t find the kernel or something…I have all the files that were included in the 50MB~ ZIP on there, and I followed this one tutorial somewhere where I had to use the syslinux commands…I did everything right…maybe I’m missing a file? wigworm
Can't tell you what's wrong there as I haven't tried to boot it with a flash drive. I just did it the old fashion way: burnt the cd. It's problem free for me.

I just did it the old fashion way: burnt the cd. It's problem free for me. I'll probably burn it to a CD-RW later and see how to do this stuff. I also tried grub, and it said that it didn't know how to execute the stuff (when I run OS X as: rootnoverify (hd0,1))
wigworm
Search for a terminal command to set the boot flag. That's what I used but I'm too lazy to search right now. It should be something like: flag -u /dev/disk0s1 --- here goes your drive number. Something like that.
drumthrasher109
I just burned Gparted to a cd, i'll try that first.
iScott
When you boot up GParted live use the second option, then format the HD to NTFS and also click to manage flags and make boot. For some reason FAT32 doesn't always work, also when you get into Disk Utility in Leopard, do not erase the partition, just repartition your HD. Sometimes people will erase the partition that is part of NTFS and it will mess up the boot. Have you tried the Zyph AMD Leopard?
drumthrasher109
I just went into Gparted, it said that that partition was already flagged as boot...wow this is driving me crazy. I might just get a little 50GB HD for a few bucks sometime. Edit: Which one is Zyph AMD Leopard? Is it the 'Mac OS X Leopard 10.5.1 for AMD SSE2/SSE3 (32bits)' one? Its going horribly slow and I can't wait 6 weeks.

drumthrasher109
Ok heres what i'm going to try. Since my second hard drive, I don't need to change active partitions, i'll free up some space, make a 30-40GB partition, and install it there and see how long it will last. drumthrasher109
Well now, since I have a dedicated 120GB HD for Leopard, all i'm getting now is a blinking cursor after the BIOS.

drumthrasher109
Alright. I've used Gparted, is for some goddamn reason turned my HFS+ Journaled partition into unallocated space, and I did nothing to change it! Wow, thanks for the help guys. What next should you mess up for me? Seriously, why am I having all these weird-ass problems? All I should have to do is make a partition (or use an empty hard drive, which I have), install, and boot! How do I re-install the Darwin-Bootloader?
