Buying Gigabyte GA-P35-DS3 for a hackintosh?

Hi,

i have just ordered this mobo. But now I have read in a older thread that not all sata channels are working on the motherboard under Leopard. Is this still a problem or do I have to go for the GA-P35-DS3R? Or is the GA-P35-DS4 even better? Or is there any other motherboard which is working out of the box with Leopard?

I have the GA-P35-DS3L and everything works well, the only thing you need to patch is the graphics card and the audio but everything else works out of the box, even network works without patch (in iATKOS 1.0i r2)

Thanks. Great to hear. I guess if GA-P35-DS3L works, the GA-P35-DS3 will work also. What is with reboot, restart and shutdown? Do they also function normally? And all four sata channels work?

Well restart or reboot work like a charm, I have some issue with shutdown, sometimes work sometimes just still on but I can hear the system already shutdown. Anyway I will wait for 10.5.2 to see if apple fix this, I hear that maybe is a Leopard bug. I have only SATA connected to the first two channels working great, don't know really if all 4 channels work.

Hi, im GA-P35-DS3 and 2. GA-P35-DS3R. All works perfect ,im thing best MB ower all :P .

But on DS3 works for me only firs 2 yellow SATA portr .On GA-P35-DS3R works ALL !

And all MB works with reboot, restart and shutdown and sleep. I recommended instal system from Kalyway 10.5.1.

Its easy and reliable.

Yes. In AHCI mode you can't use 2 of 6 SATA ports.

If legacy mode is good enough for you, then you can get all 6 sata ports working.

Rest (Sound/LAN/USB) works perfectly.

I have all 8 S-ATA ports running with a GA-P35-DS3P, are the other Boards so different?

Well the difference is that DS3R,DS3P have an ICH9R chipset and the DS3 has an ICH9 chipset. This is important because with the older chipset (ICH9) you are not able to use all sata channels with leopard. But there seems to be a solution hidden in the forum.

And to the topic:

Thx 4 your help guys! But I decided to spend a little more money and ordered the GA-P35-DS4 because there are really great instructions for that mainboard in this forum. And as far as I have read in this forum, the GA-P35-DS4 seems less trouble and less time spending to get leopard working for a newbie like me :D

I have a GA-P35-DS3P too and with iATKOS v1.0i and kalyways 10.5.1 everything except audio works after install but getting it working is incredibly simple (If you do it right, I made a silly mistake).

So far I haven't had any problems with SATA and that's with 2 hard drives and 1 DVD drive connected on the first 3 yellow/orange ports.
