macdog303
Hey guys i am so excited to install mac on my laptop. I have a dell 1501. I did everything in the guide with setting the partitions to active and stuff but when i start up the leopard dvd the only thing there is my cd drive. I have a external hard drive that was recognized but that has a lot of files would sort of be a hassle to get back. I read some threads and they said that most sata drives cannot be recognized. So does anyone have any advice? Should i do the same thing i did to my external and load mac from that or would that mess up my booting with windows? Thanks all! iScott
What are your specs for the laptop? Also kinda explain in detail a little more. Are you trying to boot off of the DVD?

iScott
Are you using an AMD version of Leopard?
Korrupted
I'll go ahead and step in here, but my reply isn't related to this thread directly. About your mobo- the x200 chipset: it won't get full 2d/3d graphics support, so you won't be able to run a whole lot of apps. Just to let you know. macdog303
ugh well this is disappointing. I guess i will just wait for a desktop to get this to work with. And yes i got the amd version.
macdog303
Quick question. Is tiger or panther have better compatibilty that would work with my setup?
Korrupted
Tiger or Leopard you mean? Panther is a PowerPC only OS. I'd wager Tiger, since it's the more mature platform.

You can read this thread which is an excellent guide for getting OS X installed on your DELL Inspiron 1501. Unfortunately, as was stated earlier, you will not be able to get QE/CI with your chipset. Cheers!

Lifeforce
i tired several times to get tiger to work on that exact laptop that my friend had and no luck but maybe ur luck will be different Well, according to that thread I posted AND myself it is a known fact that Tiger will work on a Dell Inspiron 1501 (without QE/CI). Not sure what your hangup was but with a little time and effort I was able to get Tiger to install via VMWare and ONLY via VMWare.
