Kilopopo
what advantage does vanilla kernel have?
iScott
It is not modified, it is the real deal, so it is closer to a real Mac, but you need a Core Duo type processor, but not a Pentium D. Also I think it means that you can use the update features, but do not quote me on that. Most people think that EFI is what allows you to do updates but that is wrong. BJMoose
Yes, pc-efi allows an all intel machine to use the original kernel. As Scott_Money said, the biggest benefit is to be able to download and install the newest system updates direct from Apple. In Tiger we were always a few generations behind in the kernel we were using because we had to wait for the code to be released and then for someone to hack if for us. This is a huge time saver that lets us take advantage of the latest Apple has to offer.
Kilopopo
where can i find the vanilla kernel?
iScott
It is ready for install on the Kalyway disk if your computer is up to spec's. I do not run the Vanilla kernel because I have a Pentium D, but if you have a Core Duo type processor then try it out.
robotskip
For kalyway before the installer starts press F8 and type vanilla, for iATKOS just boot normally but choose the right settings while installing (I think).
