Cdnalsi
I was just curious about this and wanted to ask for your opinion. Do you think there will ever be a software unlock for 1.1.2 OTB? I know there's the stealthSIM, and people are making a pretty buck selling that, so how realistic is a free unlock software? The people making the stealthSIM will basically go out of business! I also know 1.1.3 is around the corner, but let me ask you this then: Maybe a software 1.1.2 unlock will come AFTER 1.1.3 is released? If so, will we be able to still buy 1.1.2 OTB phones? Won't all the apple and at&t stores have the new 1.1.3OTB versions? Your thoughts?
Adrian Fogge
For some time, you will still be able to buy 1.1.2 iPhones. My local AT&T store still has 1.0.1 iPhones for sale. Sure they will sell out, order more and start selling the newer versions, but its not going to be an overnight thing.
bongfury
My thoughts have been this from the very beginning (and one reason I've sold up and left well alone aside from the further generations/price drop).... if jobsy wants to kill the iphone unlocking scene it takes very little thought, the most effective method we are already seeing.. staggered updates and multiple versions of bootloaders, all that is required is to have further numbers of bootloaders with further released versions flooding the market along with intelligent selection of update/no more shift click to restore/update via itunes and it's going to make things extremely difficult, unlocking will obviously still happen but it'll crawl even more than it is now.. lots of confusion... the majority of the real hacking potential orginates from brazil and the US, not around europe AFAIK... you get me?, I can't help thinking this is Apple's beta test and they're learning some lessons (note that no-one has cracked nano 2nd gen to allow even the most simple of tweaks (though not as many cared.).. although you have to wonder if that's what Apple want in order not to loose face with the telco's, facing the certainty of even weaker sales.. prefer not as I did quite well supplementing my income on ebay up until a month ago. anyone wanna buy some virtually unused v-moda's with the iphone control btw? JSn1™
1.1.2 ootb are now unlockable via hardware unlock. This is done by downgrading the bootloader to 3.9. Software unlock shouldn't take long.
