boba899
The screen shot below is an example of an applied wallpaper which, on an XP or Ubuntu install, has a smooth gradient. I'm not sure what's causing it. I've got an ATI Radeon 9600 Pro with QE/CI enabled via Callisto b008. The problem remains weather Callisto is installed or not. It's something I can live with, but it is very irritating. I've trawled through settings looking for settings regarding 24-bit displays etc, like you might find in the XP display settings panel but can't find anything that sorts the problem. The picture is at http://i129.photobucket.com/albums/p209/bo...een-capture.png Any help is greatly appreciated. Proteo
Uh? The gradient looks smooth to me. Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/79892-gradients-dont-render-properly-wallpapers-web-pages/#findComment-566094 Share on other sites
boba899
Need to look at the picture closer up. Here is a clearer one of a different wallpaper. Again, it displays smoothly and with out the edges etc you see on this one in XP and Ubuntu. http://i129.photobucket.com/albums/p209/bo...n-capture-1.png Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/79892-gradients-dont-render-properly-wallpapers-web-pages/#findComment-566097 Share on other sites
Proteo
Ah, now I can see the problem. Are you sure CI and QE are enabled? Can you post your graphics SysProfiler information? Did you check if color depth is set to "Millions" in System Preferences > Display? Sorry if that solution is too noobish', but it's the only one that comes to my mind right now. boba899
Sure, it's attached. 32 Bit colour depth, same as the setting in windows, and it is set to millions in the system preferences. Odd, no? Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/79892-gradients-dont-render-properly-wallpapers-web-pages/#findComment-567411 Share on other sites
boba899
Sorry to bump, but is there no solution? Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/79892-gradients-dont-render-properly-wallpapers-web-pages/#findComment-569650 Share on other sites
boba899
Must be no solution then. Dang. Ah well, thanks anyway. atlnte
I actually have this same problem. I really wish someone knew of a solution, as I wanted to use OSX for some graphic design, but when gradients aren't rendered correctly (stepping occurs) it's hard to know what it will look like when it is rendered correctly. I'm on 10.4.10 with nVidia Geforce Go 6600. Akanus
This is a TN-panel of your monitor and Callisto driver problem. I have this problem with Acer AL2016W too, so in my Debian Linux - gradient is a smooth and good!. Sorry for my english. lilSoldier
If you are on a desktop and have access to both VGA and DVI, try switching between them, that's what fixed it for me!
