Before I start to detail my experience, here is the rig I am using so that you may be able to point out any obvious incompatibilities etc.

HP Pavillion dv5130us Notebook PC

AMD Turion64 2.0GHz Processor

1024MB Ram

ATI Radeon Xpress 200m Graphics Chipset

Installing on a 15.6GB Flash Drive

Here is what I did:

I downloaded the uphuck 10.4.9 Install DVD v1.3, because it sounded like it was the most universal installation DVD. I burned it to a DVD, and it all checks out fine. I format my 15.6GB flash drive as shown here. To install I select the AMD version of OS X, the most recent universal kernal, a few of the patches (the main one being the permanent verbose mode), and a couple of drivers (one being for an ATI x1x00 which I don't have, but it is the closest to 200M that I see). I then install it to the flash drive. It checks the installation DVD and it's all good, and it installs to the flash frive for the next hour or so.

Finally, when it is finished, I go to boot from the flash drive and it comes back with an error. I press F8 until it prompts me for some switches and I manually enter the -v switch to see wth is going on.

It all boots fine until OS X looks for a file called "com.Apple.Boot.plist". It then returns with the error "Error parsing plist fileLoading Darwin\x86".

Could somebody please give me any suggestions as to what I am doing wrong or is messed up? This will be the eighth time I've tried to get this to work.

Will using a USB mouse and keyboard and an external monitor fix this sort of thing?

Please help!

TIA for any responses.

======================================

I just tried booting OS X without any peripheral drivers or patches installed whatsoever. Just the plain old AMD version of OS X with the latest universal kernal. It read the com.Apple.boot.plist file okay this time, no errors. But now it just loops prompting me to select the startup volume. AKA this is NOT working for me!!!!

Please help someone! :blowup:
