matt o
i am trying to install Zephyroth 10.5.1 AMD DVD on a hp dv8000(dv8125r). when is try to boot from the installation dvd the computer starts booting but 3 seconds later restarts. it looks like it has something to do with the kernal i would assume. according to wiki, the dv8000 should work with this dvd. http://wiki.osx86project.org/wiki/index.ph...ortables#dv8000 i also heard something about setting the sata to a legacy mode, but there is no option for that in current bios. i have tried to boot with -legacy but same problem. specs are below, help would be greatly appreciated Product Name dv8125nr US Product Number EP410UA#ABAMicroprocessor 1.8 GHz AMD Turion™ 64 Mobile Processor ML-32 with PowerNow!™ TechnologyMicroprocessor Cache 512KB L2 CacheMemory 512MB 333MHz DDR System Memory (2 Dimm)Memory Max 2048MBVideo Graphics ATI RADEON® XPRESS 200M IGPVideo Memory 128MB DDR (dedicated)Hard Drive 160GB (5400RPM) Hard Drive Dual HDD- 80GB x 2Multimedia Drive LightScribe 8X DVD±RW and CD-RW Combo Drive with Double Layer Support with 1 CD-R blank mediaDisplay 17.0" WXGA+ High-Definition BrightView Widescreen Display (1440 x 900)Fax/Modem High speed 56k modemNetwork Card Integrated 10/100BASE-T Ethernet LAN (RJ-45 connector)Wireless Connectivity 54g™ 802.11b/g WLAN with 125HSM / SpeedBooster support

matt o
i got it to boot to the installer using this command but only works sometimes, read below. try this, press f8 when loader comes up type: platform=x86pc -legacy -v it was very weird, i was in windows and the computer went to sleep. i woke the computer and restarted to try to run installer from cd again and it booted to the installer. after installed it states that the apple.boot.plist file is missing. now when i tryed to boot to installer, i got the same problem before with restarting. i then hard powered off the laptop(hold power button for 3 seconds). turned laptop back on and wallah it booted to installer again. reinstalled one more time and still states missing apple.boot.plist. i think there is a fix for this problem. i will research. Renegade Division
Has anyone of you tried this method with Zephyroth?? I used this method to install 10.4.9 and it worked. http://marc88.blogspot.com/2007/03/osx86-i...x200-users.html
alpha2zulu00
Hey guys, I have the successful dv8000 install posted in the wiki. It did take some tweaking to get it booted and installed, here's something I want you guys to try: First, update the BIOS. It should be version F.54, and you can download it from the HP Support site. (just look for HP Pavilion dv8000 CTO, it'll show a list of updates and stuff) After you do that, if it doesn't boot right, try this. Once the HP logo shows up on boot, hit Esc. You should have the Zephyroth DVD already in the drive. After you press Esc, a list will come up showing the different devices you can boot off of. WAIT 10 SECONDS Literally. Count to 10. Then highlight your DVD drive and hit Enter. When I installed Tiger back in the day, if I didn't wait 10 seconds, it would tell me "HFS+ Partition Error" While installing Leopard, it gave me the "com.apple.boot.plist" error. There's another solution I came up with that I can't quite remember right now... but try this method first. Any other help needed with this computer... I can definitely be of service! Renegade Division
Thank you very much alpha2zulu00, this technique has enabled me to finally boot this DVD. But I am still having some problem. I am getting that infamous Sam Multimedia error mach_kernel: SAM Multimedia: READ or WRITE failed, ASC = 0x11, ASCQ = 0x00 Two possible solution I found were: 1) Rewrite the Disk, which I am doing right now as I write 2) Change some IDE settings. The problem with second solution is that either it has to be done something with BIOS, but since I updated my BIOS most of the options in my BIOS settings are missing now. I wonder if there is a special place where I can find them in the BIOS settings. Did you face the same thing(BIOS settings missing)?
alpha2zulu00
Haha, I rarely looked at my BIOS before I got into osx86. I'm really not quite sure. I think I remember something being added, call me crazy. Hmm... never seen that "infamous" SAM error before. Where/when does that show up? Also, try running the SPTD update again. I think updating the BIOS modifies it somehow.
Renegade Division
Well I burnt another CD and the Sam multimedia error was gone. And I went through the setup process, but the Disk verification failed. Now I donno how come I am getting so many errors, but I will try writing down another DVD and see. alpha2zulu00
Sounds like you're having problems burning the image. I recommend using ImgBurn. Burn at 8x. And use only single-layer DVD-R (although I don't think you have a choice with that one). Also, you could try re-downloading the image straight to your internal hard drive, and just walk away from your computer while it's going. I always try to make sure there's NO interruption with large torrents... exiting the client, shutting down, etc.
rkhessel
alpha2zulu00, the HCL wiki says you got audio working. My audio is not working. I have a dv8000 AMD laptop, I installed Leopard 10.5.2 AMD EFI (it might be a Leo4All release, not sure), I think I had trouble locating Zephyroth. Callisto B3 did the trick for video, but the threads on audio compatibility are not encouraging, so if you have any pointers it would be greatly appreciated. I tried removing the AppleHDA kext in the hopes Azallia would pick up the slack but no such luck. My vendor ID is 0x103c and my device ID is 0x309b, hopefully you have the same . your suggestion to access the boot menu first finally got me booting into the install disc, thanks so much for the tip! The Big H
I too am trying to get leo installed on my DV8000(Dv8315nr). I can get in to the installation process and get it started, but once it gets to the point to where it says "about a minute left", it freezes, and it sits there for hours on end. Any one know why this happens and what I can do to fix it?

I had the same problem with the keyboard and mouse. What you need to do is go to another computer, download a program called "Transmac". That will allow you to read Mac files on a Windows PC. Insert the installation DVD and copy the "ApplePS2Controller.kext" to a thumb drive (make sure the thumb drive is formatted to FAT32, and copy it directly to the thumb drive). Then copy the .kext file in to the "/System/Library/Extensions" folder. To copy the .kext, use the directions located in the "Genious Bar" topic in the forums. I am still working on the com.apple.boot.plis error.
