Well, it's almost the end of 2007, and it's been a great year, especially for Apple. I mean, the iPhone, Leopard, iWork and iLife '08 were released. But this thread isn't about Apple. What do YOU think that, at the end of 2008, computers will be like. Here are some of the things that we are looking at:

-Hard Drive Space

-CPU Speed

-Average RAM Size

-iPod Market Share

-iPhone Market Share

-Zunes (Anything)

-Windows, what do you think the next version will be like?

-OS X, what will 10.6 be like?

And anything else that I left out, a lot. So if you think of anything about the end of 2008, please, post it here. I'll make a Front Page Story about this and see what people say. Thanks

Do you really think it's gonna be released next year? C'mon, be realistic Numberzz.

2008=The Year Of Chinese Democracy (GNR)

And I predict that I'm gonna graduate, CLASS OF '08 REPRESENT.

the size of cpu manufacturing process is getting lower and lower and more and more powerful but soon enough i think cpus will be optical and not transistor tech (or integrated circuit)... not in 2008 though probably... anyway what i think really is that this thread is a tad pointless seeing that you can see most of the stuff coming out in 2008 on wiki... well certainly what cpus intel will have, types of intenet connection... very soon we'll be getting 100 megabit internet in every home (and not just sweden). Then 10 Gigabase internet - That will be when everything goes "live" meaning everything can be done online instantly no matter the task, computers will be entirely broswer based.

I see the price of Flash hard drives going down and the size going up.

Maybe 128 or more gigs end of 2008.

I agree here too.

As far as Leopard goes, I see it having a very long life cycle. It was pushed out for Intel Macs, and now that it's out theres really no immediate need for a new OS. I can barely think of any features I'd like, I guess a better front row and an uninstaller (something that works like Add or Remove Programs in XP SP2 or Programs and Features in Vista)

Uninstaller??? Why? Just drag the app to the Trash. Max you can use Appzapper. The only other files a application has are 1-2KB Pref files.

13" Macbook Pro half an inch thick and obviously lighter, sold with a USB DVD drive and no internal.

almost all laptops to be sold with 4GB of RAM, to shore up the price.

- Windows users constantly asking me why their new laptop only "sees" 3.25GB when PC world said it had 4GB.

- asking what RAM is as a follow up question....

Server 2008 will rock, and there will be a mass migration to it from Vista among pirates.

- Server 2008 will flop because systems admins unfairly associate it with Vista.

Vista SP1 will dissapoint, and SP2 will be rumoured to be coming in December 2008

before that, Steve will show the Cougar/Lynx beta at WWDC in August, with Time Machine 2.0 (featuring more configuration, backup over network - basically everything they could have done with 1.0 but didnt bother with) and there will be the usual mad scrabble for torrents and usenet copies.

3G iPhone

slightest increase in Linux desktop usage

SSD to become more prevalent

Apple UMPC? maybe.

personally I'm looking forward to the tiny Macbook Pro, Server 2008 and Lynx/Cougar. (I miss the days of August 2006 - October 2007 with Leopard betas!)

All I want is a 13.3" Mac Tablet that runs a full version of Leopard, and a 3G iPhone in larger capacities.

Realistically, I predict a 12" Mac Tablet with a crappy XGA screen and gimped version of Leopard, and a 3G iPhone that still has pathetically small storage space.

You can order Modbook from Axiotron beginning from January, 8.

Well, it didn't happen in 2006 or 2007, so maybe 2008 will bring an update to the iMac with at least 1 (but hopefully 2) SATA external connectors on the 24 inch model.

That'd make the hugest difference in time-machine.

I think we might see a 3 ghz MacBook pro, with 4 gb ram

Would be nice, you never know... I'm waiting until after Macworld 08 (and the apple store is updated) before I get mine just incase anything nice happens.

8800m GTX for Macbook Pro. 500gb HDD, 4-8gb RAM. on the 17" model which would be 1.2" thick. Would buy it in an instant! ;)

Apple have a History of being behind the times for Graphics Cards, though I'm wondering if that's about to change... with Leopard 10.5.2 adding support for new GPUs including 8800's, the newer ATIs etc. it'd be nice to see a new Mobile graphics card in a MBP.
